Cab in Costa Maya?

We will be stopping here on our cruise in Oct. of this year.

 

Has anyone just gotten a cab for a private tour around the island? We do this a lot in ports and was wondering if this was an ok place to do something like this. Did you feel safe doing this?

I recommend you do the David and Ivan Tour. It is about a one hour drive to the ruins and you go through military security check points. Costa Maya is not built up/commercial like Cozumel.

 

You can get the shuttle bus outside the Tourist Station to Majahual which is a very small fishing village right on the beach. They sell their wares on tables streetside.

Thanks for the information. We already did the ruins in Mexico so probably won't do that again. We would just like to drive around the island. Do you think it is safe there to get a cab and do that? We read somewhere that somebody said they did not feel safe in Costa Maya but don't know why.

Just exactly what I wanted to know! We much prefer getting a cab on our own instead of crowded ship's tour. Just wanted to make sure it was a safe thing to do in Costa Maya.

 

The resort area right off the pier looks really nice and we want to spend some time there also but wanted to get a look around the island as well.
