johnmag Posted June 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2006 Is anyone back recently? How was it, and has the illness situation cleared up any? We have cabins 1026 and 1025 are these okay. Finally is the pearl harbour tour worth booking through the ship or should we go through someone else or do it on our own, it says we arrive into honolulu at 7:00a.m. and I don't know if this is enough time to get off the ship and go over there ourselves and get tickets. Thank-you I appreciate any help you can give me. Sheila
CruisinMK Posted June 24, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2006 It's really not bad to do on your own. I assume you're flying out the same day (bummer!) If you fly American/Delta/United they have a new program where they checkin your bags for your flight for you, so you can wander around for the day without lugging them or worrying about them. Pearl Harbor is not very far from the Aloha Tower. If you have a late night flight it would be nice to rent a car for the day, or if you have much less time then a cab isn't bad. There is no benefit to a "guided tour" of Arizona memorial, you just get your tickets and wait for the ferry regardless.
johnmag Posted June 24, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted June 24, 2006 We actually board in Maui so we will be getting back on the ship.
CruisinMK Posted June 24, 2006 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2006 Oh okay. If you rent a car you can go around the north shore, or try a shorter kaneohe-Hanauma bay itinerary I posted here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=366960
davidvc04 Posted June 26, 2006 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2006 The Harbor gets busy early, early. We were among the first there and facing very long lines. The benefit of going on the "tour" is guaranteed transportation and someone getting your tickets and telling you when to be where. But you can certainly rent a car and do the same. Despite the large crowds, the Harbor park officials seem to have it down pretty well to keep people moving through.
janniebabe Posted June 29, 2006 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2006 I know you have been on both Pride of Aloha and Pride of Hawaii. We are currently booked for Oct 07 with POH, but in view of all of the negative reviews being posted about this ship we are concerned. Do you think in your opinion that these will straighten out or should we be thinking about switching to another ship? Thanks.
davidvc04 Posted June 29, 2006 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2006 Haven't the reviews for PoH been positive?
janniebabe Posted June 29, 2006 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2006 Haven't the reviews for PoH been positive? If you read thru the reviews that have been posted so far they are having some real problems with food and service.
