Singleworld Memories

Recommended Posts

I took my first cruise on the S/S Norway with Singleworld in 1984.

I was only 19yrs old but back then, they never check to make sure I was 21yrs old. I even traveled alone. I carried both the Norway and Singleworld brochure around with me and studied every layout of the ship for an entire year before I even when on the cruise. I didn't tell my parents that I saved up the money and payed for the cruise until a few weeks before I was ready to sail. The were a little reluctant at first letting me travel alone, but they knew how much I really wanted to sail on this ship.

I had a wonderful time with the group of us traveling with Singleworld. I was the youngest in the group, but I did have a great time hanging and sharing fun times on the ship and at the ports with everyone. I even befriended a older lady and we are still to this day great friends, even though we are in different states.

I did 3 Singleworld cruises before they went out of business. I have since been on over 20 cruises, but none were as memorable as my very first cruise on the S/S Norway or the 2 others that I took on the S/S Norway. The ships today are great in their own way, but I still think back to how the Norway is in my mind a true "Ocean Liner". I'm so pleased that I have been able to experience sailing on her. Love to hear from other's that had great times with Singleworld.

I agree, Singleworld cruises were great times for single travelers and I regret that the company no longer exists for singles today. I have nothing but fond memories of the fun I had with the groups and the excellent job the Singelworld escorts always did to insure we had a good time. It would be great if someone could write in and tell us what happened to all of those escorts and where they are today. I can remember severl of them as Julie McCormack, Julia Stramm, Beth Grosholtz and Dominick O'Connor ( I think). So if you have info on any of these folks, please post it.

What a nice memory this evokes! I was on the Norway and cruised with Singleworld -- and it was a great experience! We did an itinerary that I am partially re-doing with my family this summer on the Triumph -- St. Maarten, St. Thomas! Our guide was very nice - but what I think was the most remarkable was the convivality of the entire group -- while there was some "pairing off", for the most part, everyone enjoyed the company of everyone else.

Dominick's last name was O'Carroll. I had him as an escort on one of my cruises.
