Dem920 Posted July 5, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2006 I had heard somewhere that NCL's cruises in Hawaii do not have casino's on the ships. Can anyone confirm if that is true or not? We are looking to go in July or August 2007 but some of the people we travel with need the casino's at night. Any ideas?? -DEM920

This is because they stay in Hawaii waters and don't leave the US. Try one of the other lines that stop at Fanning Island if you need a casino. ruthie0704 Posted July 5, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 5, 2006 From my research of Hawaiin cruises, unless the ship leave U.S. waters into international waters, there's no casinos. That was an issue with me too when looking at NCL's 7 day cruises.
spirit rev Posted July 5, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2006 Last December, there was no casino on the NCL Wind. The gaming machines were put in storage. State Law prohibits any gaming machines in state territory. This means that there was no casino during our trip to/from Fanning Island. There were several Bingo games on those 4 sea days. There is plenty of entertainment in the evenings.
jbritten Posted July 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 5, 2006 We are just back from Hawaii and Pride of Hawaii cruise ship- there are no casinos but that should be the least of your concerns. Long lines for dinner, no clean plates or silverware, cold food and lots of inaccurate information from the cruise line- just to name a few- unless NCL gets its act together, do not cruise Hawaii with NCL:(
MidtheNight Posted July 5, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 5, 2006 Actually it's any cruise ship which enter Hawaiian waters does not have a casino in operation. If you do a repositioning cruise the casinos are closed before it enters Hawaiian waters. If you cruise Honolulu round trip (Fanning Island) there is no casino....if you cruise just Hawaiian waters only there's no casino.
KeystoneCruiser Posted July 6, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 6, 2006 We did the POA reposition cruise from SF to Honolulu. There, of course is no casino on any of the three Pride ships, (Aloha, America or Hawaii). They told us the last sea day before we reached Hawaii, that it would be the last day for bingo and that all "krack-its" instant tickets had to be sold by midnight. There is no casino or gambling (bingo) allowed in Hawaiian waters. Even the Wind (and soon the Sun) will not have casino's when they do the summer runs to Fanning Island. Other cruise lines are in the same boat. Casino's must close upon entering Hawaiian waters. If your friends HAVE to have a casino, then Hawaii cruising may not be for them. bonvoyagie Posted July 6, 2006 #8 Share Posted July 6, 2006 We were told that the no gambleing area extends 1500 mi around the islands.
beachchick Posted July 6, 2006 #9 Share Posted July 6, 2006 We were told that the no gambleing area extends 1500 mi around the islands. I don't see how this could possibly be accurate. You'd be in international waters long before that. Plus, that distance would encompass islands belonging to other countries. The state of Hawaii has no jurisdiction over what other countries do (or what they allow in their territorial waters). I believe that international waters are less than 30 miles from shore, but I don't know about that. It could be more, but it is not 1500 miles. beachchick
