Venice shuttle question

Recommended Posts

Which is the easiest and most economical way to get to San Marco Square from the ship when in Venice? Does the shuttle take you directly to the square or do you have to change to a water taxi? If so, what number? Also, does a full day vaporreto pass mean for that day only or for a 24 hour period? Thanks for your help!!!:)

I'll answer the easy one first. The water bus pass is good for 24 hours after the first time time you use it not the time you buy it.

As far as getting from the ship to St Marco square, it depends on what ship you are on. Some ships provide a water bus service from the port to the square and back for a fee per person per day. You can also walk over to the Piazzo Roma pick up a daily water bus pass and then take waterbus 1 or 82 down the grand canal to San Marco square.

Have a great next cruise.

Thanks for your prompt reply. So, if we are to be in Venice for 1 1/2 days it sounds like the smartest thing to do is to walk to the water bus place and get a ticket that will last us for 24 hours as opposed to paying for the shuttle for 2 days. Beside, everyone says that the ride on the Grand Canal is not to be missed.

You will definitely want to do the ride down the Grand Canal, if possible at different times of day. During the early evening as the sun begins setting the variety of shadows and colors on the buildings lining the Grand Canal is fantastic.

Here is a great web site to get lots and lots of info on Venice. I used it a lot before our visit in 2003.

Venice is a fantastic place that we hope to return to again someday. We were there for almost 5 days after a Med cruise on the Golden and still didn't do or see everything we wanted to.

Just walking around is a treat as you never know what is going to be around the next corner or over the next bridge. It is one of the few places where I didn't mind getting a little lost because you might see something you would otherwise miss.

A really good guidebook and set of maps for Venice is the "AAA Spiral guide for Venice". It's size allows you to carry it in a pocket and have it with you while you walk around.

Have a great next cruise.
