If You're Not In A Wheelchair? What Does A Handicapped Person Look Like?

Recommended Posts

Jeri: When is your cruise? Please let us know how it goes and how you did! I'm wishing you safe sails, calm seas, good shows and amazing food!

Valantine's Mom: I think your plan with your "furbaby" is a good one for you. And, you certainly would know what was safe or unsafe for both of you! I have not ventured off of the ships much with Brenda (my service dog). I don't want to risk her being attacked. She is quite big and looks very bold but she's truly my darling and if anything would happen to her due to another dog attack, I would be devastated, not to mention the pain it would cause her!

It seems our most challenging task with Brenda is the "potty box"; where and when does the ship place it; and, why can't it be ready the moment we board? They just have to have it in place, tell the purser, the inform me and waalaa!!

They make it so much harder by waiting until I board and then scurring around to get the job done. I'm now in contact with NCL to be more prepared than Celebrity or Princess was!

Do you have a secret clue to getting this done more efficiently than I do? I'm open for suggestions! :p

When we were on Celebrity's Mercury last October, Hugo's area was ready when we boarded. In fact, the person who escorted us to our cabin was the person who showed us the area. There was another dog guide on board as well, and his area was on the deck below ours, but in exactly the same place.

I don't know what the secret was to having this ready when we boarded, but it was. I know my husband was in contact with Celebrity quite a bit before we left, double- and triple-checking everything. All our special arrangements were taken care of without delay or confusion. I will say it was very, very different from when we sailed with Carnival in 2002.

hugosmom: Thanks for the info. I'll just have to be more persistent! Princess, finally, moved the box into a stairwell right on our deck. (They use cardboard, so it wasn't that difficult to do)! That was perfect! I'm going to be very "on their case" with NCL and hopefully we'll get them to do the same!

I don't know if they use cardboard or wood boxes! Celebrity uses wood.

madhouseinc: How lucky are you? I would love to cruise for 80 days. It's a dream come true. What ship? And, where are you going?

Don't you need a tall blonde and a big, black Lab to tag along? I promise to share and stay out of your way! ;)

I really have only one problem; I stare into the vistas, on a cruise ship, for hours at a time! I can't get enough of that salt air! And, I eat too much......but, that's the ships problem, not yours! :D

Even if you don't take me or Brenda with you......I wish you happy and healthy days!!!!!!!

In celebration of their 20th Birthday, QVC chartered the entire ship. It is 7 nights and we will be visiting San Juan, St. Thomas and a private island in the Dominican Republic. In San Juan they will be having 2 live shows and a whole lot of the most popular vendors coming. It is my first cruise alone since the strokes and even though I am a bit nervous, excited. Since the entire ship will be filled with QVC nuts and their friends/families I am sure I will meet many people with similar interests. I have read a lot of conflicting reviews of the Opera - people either love it or hate it. So, I guess I will see in a few months. I am very interested in how they will handle things. It is supposed to be more of an European feel...

QVC???? I love QVC???? One of my favorite places to shop. I love the quality of their merchandise! Got their credit card and shop there all the time!

And, I love their taste in vacations!

You will do so well. It's amazing how a cruise ship stabalizes my inner ear issues! It's that "don't rock the boat thing"!

Have fun!!!! Write and tell us all about it!!!!!
