Bioluminescence Bay/San Juan Questions

We are going to stay one night precruise and hope to tour the Bioluminescence Bay. Has anyone done this? We are going to book an independent tour (doesn't look like Princess offers a tour like this and we have booked our own air to come in a day early). After reading several posts - considering staying closer to the Bio Bay and then after checking in for cruise early in day and discarding luggage - going back to Old San Juan to explore before we depart.

 

Any suggestions or info anyone might be able to share that has done a Bio Bay tour or stayed outside San Juan precruise or postcruise?
