cv sailor Posted August 15, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2006 We're sailing with friends after a short Transylvania tour. Any suggestion on activities along the way would be most appreciated. GCT informed us that water levels are not a problem on the portion of the Danube. Goes that information conform to fact?
gracecarmo Posted August 15, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2006 Cvsailor: we took the GCT trip on the Danube last year, only in the opposite direction. Most of the activities along the way were planned by GCT, and involed bus rides to the various venues. There was not much to see around the areas that the boat docks. (thus the bus ride to city center, etc.) Bucharest was interesting. GCT did a good job with guides.
cv sailor Posted August 17, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted August 17, 2006 Cabins: My wife and I spend little time in our cabins and often opt for the least expensive, outside cabin. Is this a good choice? Our one completed river boat experience was a Uniworld Russian river cruise. For that adventure, we selected a large window cabin and most of the lower deck cabins seemed unoccupied. Future Cruise Choices. We have our 2007 sights on a French river adventure (e.g. La Havre/Paris to Nice/Avignon). The offerings of Grand Circle (GCT) and Viking look promising, but perhaps other options exist, which we have not identified. Any counsel on potential choices/good points and bad points of various options would be most appreciated. At first viewing, Viking looks a bit expensive, but perhaps the "all inclusive" nature of that option makes it a wash in comparison to GCT. We're looking for: Comfort but we're too focused on luxury, Quality food featuring local cuisine, Interesting itinerary (Giverny a must), Quality guides / cruise director, Well planned events, which fit nicely into the schedule. cv sailor Posted August 17, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted August 17, 2006 I should have written: Comfort but we're not too focused on luxury,
cmthomas Posted August 17, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 17, 2006 CV, there is an edit button on your message that allows correction of just such slips of the tongue. I speak thereof from experience! Clarence:)
gerena Posted June 3, 2007 #6 Share Posted June 3, 2007 CV Sailor, How did you find the weather on your October cruise. We would like to go when there is Fall color, but not sure when that is in that part of the world. Thanks Rena
cv sailor Posted June 3, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted June 3, 2007 The weather, for the most part, was cool but comfortable. We used the layered clothing approach suggested by GCT.
