reader5 Posted September 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2006 We will be sailing a Transatlantic Cruise (Century) April 2007 and will be disembarking in Amsterdam. We want to spend at least two nights in Amsterdam and are looking for suggestions for a B&B or reasonable nice Hotel preferably in a residential district or close to the city. Never having been to Amsterdam we would appreciate any suggestions and desirable locations. Thanks for your anticipated responses.

Ine Posted September 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2006 In 2007 Century will sail to and from Rotterdam, not Amsterdam. So you will need a transfer or arrange it yourself. Over a longer period I made out this list of various hotels at various rates. Even more on the website of the Amsterdam tourist office: http://www.vvvamsterdam.nl/ Various hotels in Amsterdam. Banks Mansion: http://banksmansion.carlton.nl/default.asp?tc=UK&action=page&paginaID=5401 Hotel Brouwer: http://www.hotelbrouwer.nl/index.html Ambassade Hotel: http://www.hoteliers.nl/amsterdam/ambassade-hotel/ Hotel Barbizan Palace:http://www.nh-hotels.com/listapaises/nl/europe/nederland/amsterdam/nh_barbizon_palace.html Movenpick Hotel at the cruise-terminal: http://www.moevenpick-hotels.com/hotels/HKAMSHH/hotelWelcome.htm Hotel Pulitzer: http://www.pulitzer.nl/templates/mercury.asp?page_id=4607 Hotel Le coin: http://www.lecoin.nl/indexEN.html Hotel Estherea: http://www.estherea.nl/estherea_content.html Hotel Aalders: http://www.amsterdam-info.com/Hotel_..._Amsterdam.htm Hotel Piet Hein: http://www.hotelpiethein.nl/engels.html Hotel Jan Luyken: http://www.janluyken.nl/janluyken/ Lloyd Hotel: http://www.lloydhotel.com/ More budget:Hotel Kap www.kaphotel.nl/ Hotel de Munck www.hoteldemunck.com/ Also NH hotels (a.o. Krasnapolsky), Ramada, Ibis, have hotels at a moderate rate. Most hotels are in or around city-centre. Amsterdam is a very walkable city and public transport is very good. Be sure to visit Ann Frank house, make a canalboattour, visit Rijksmuseum etc.

reader5 Posted September 11, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted September 11, 2006 Thanks for your response with the info. We will be sailing on April 26th on a transatlantic cruise on the Century and it is my understanding that the ship disembarks in Amsterdam. Hopefully this is correct. No, as far as I have seen Celebrity keeps calling it Amsterdam (Rotterdam). Century is not on the arrival list in 2007 in Amsterdam...
Tina G Posted September 13, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 13, 2006 I don't think a cruise ship would fit in Amsterdam's harbour. We took a riverboat cruise from there, but it's not deep water for a cruise ship.
Ine Posted September 13, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 13, 2006 ALL cruiseships fit in Amsterdam harbor. Even 2 or 3 at the same time, so you didnot see the cruise-terminal.... Amsterdam also has far more cruise-ships then Rotterdam.Rotterdam is now making all efforts to promote the harbor not just commercial but also to cruiseships.... But for tourists Amsterdam is more attractive plus Schiphol airport is much closer.
Ine Posted September 13, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 13, 2006 I took this photo on July 31 2006, when just 2 ships were in port. See Prinsendam (HAL) and Silver whisper (Silverseas) lying in the cruiseterminal. All the way in the back you might spot the place were rivercruiseships usually dock. This list gives you all ships for 2007 that will make a stop in Amsterdam (Also the last few ones for 2006). http://www.amsterdamports.nl/smartsite127.dws
