Has anyone taken the tenders in Georgetown? I seem to recall they issue boarding times at the purser desk the morning of the anchoring for people without a tour booked with the cruiseline. Anybody had this experiance?

All ships are at anchor in Grand Cayman, so everyone will have to tender. Depending on your cruiseline, usually they will issue tender tickets with those on a ship sponsored tour with the tour tickets. For all others, you would go to the designated area and pick up a ticket. Generally after a couple of hours, you no longer need a ticket and can come and go as you please. it's really a simple process.

Last time we were in Grand Cayman on the Rhapsody we had a ship tour. We were told to meet in the theatre at 7 am :D and each tour was given a different color sticky tag for our shirts.... then as your color was called you went to the tenders. But did discuss with others who were not on ship excursions and learned that if you wait 1/2 hr - 1 hr from the time they "open" the gates ..... the big rush is over....

We have a ship tour planned for this trip on the Legend but it doesnt start until noon....plan to head into town earlier tho and shop BUT will wait until after the crowds leave.

People on ship tours have priority tendering. Those not on ship tours need to follow whatever process the ship has. Usually tender tickets or stickers or...

They will tell you what the process is - check the daily activity papers.

Basically, if you arrange for a 9am shore excursion on your own, don't think you can just walk down and jump on a tender at 8:55am and make the tour. You may be able to, but most will say to allow 45 minutes-1 hour to get ashore. It could be longer or shorter.

I was just on the carnival Inspiration last week and we went to Georgetown. They just had areas blocked off until it was time to tender. I assume they let the people who had booked tours with the cruise off first but they didn't make any of the others have tags, stickers or any other type of thing. For example if you tried to take the elevator to level 3 which is where you had to get off at it was taped off until they had been cleared. Everyone just lined up down the stairs. Who ever got there first got off first (not counting the carnival tour bookers)
