C-LAD Posted October 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2006 Anyone else receive Promo mailing from Princess recently (received in mail on 9/30) - specifically all balcony cabins at one rate on selected sailings? Checked on Sapphire Princess' sailing of April 14, 2008 (yes 2008!) from Sydney to LA - great itinerary and 31 days for $4995 for any balcony. Unfortunately all balconied cabins are waitlisted already and Princess will not guarantee the $4995 for waitlisting - they now want $6645 for Cat. BA!! Why the "promo" when nothing available?? Seems fishy!!
Toto2Kansas Posted October 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2006 Even with the promo's, our TA has always been able to come up with a better price. Find a good TA and book as soon as the cruise opens up, that's the secret.
iancal Posted October 2, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 2, 2006 When we first started getting those promos we thought great, lets book and save a few bucks. Then we 'tested' the so called promo pricing with our on line agent. For the most part, the promo was great for Princess, not so great for us. We did this at least five or six times. Now, we just chuck them in the bin without reading them. No point really.
clay1234 Posted October 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 3, 2006 First of all, welcome to the wonderful world of marketing. they get you to call and find that the balcony is waitlisted. a). either you pay the high price for the one that they have available, or better yet, b). you give them half the regular deposit for them to keep in their bank account to draw interest from (which can add up for them if you have ever been waitlisted for a cruise and thought of how many other people are waitlisted as well,we were number 98 one time and never cleared). Either way they win and you either don't go on the cruise and they keep your money for a while or you do and pay the outrageious price. Marketing 101 and princess wrote half the material for the course.
