Flash Memory card to CD - Alaska ports

I have seen posts regarding transferring memory cards to CD in ports and on the ship and wanted to get some more info. I will be in the following ports, Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Icy Stright .

 

Does anyone know specific locations in these ports that may do this service and what the cost is?

I was told you can do it on most of the ships for $9.00 a shot. I'm leaving on the Summit for Alaska at the end of the month and I hope the information I was given is correct.

i had called customer support ( i know that they have no clue), but they told me that only 1 ship has that capability and it is not the vision

There is a Walmart in Ketchikan and Fred Meyer in Juneau- both usually have the one hour photo sections that will transfer memory cards to CD's.

What kind of portable writer did you buy. I am looking for one. Am having problems finding one, or I don't know what to look for.

not sure of the brand, i have not gotten it yet, but i bought a magazine called "digital camera' and they had some ads in there.

 

This one was about 225 dollars, and if you are using a large (1gig) card it will span cd's when copying.

Nope - not walkable. But Walmart runs a shuttle from the Ketchikan dock area. If you have a lot of time in Juneau- the city bus goes by Fred Meyer.

I just returned from Alaska and saw a place in Ketchikan that seemed to be capable to doing this. They are very close to the dock. I was on HAL and the store was just to the left from the bottom of the gangway, kind of in the back of a large gift shop. There are signs posted.

The one I am using is a EZ Digimagic portable cd burner. It runs about $269 plus more for the card adaptor, car adaptor, ac adaptor, case, etc. I have also seen one called Roadstor if you search under portable stand alone cd writers.

For as inexpensive as digital photography has become, this is kind of pricey.

That is why I am borrowing my son's! He and his friends shot over 3000 shots in Mex Riv in Feb and they burned several cds. Little pricey for me.

I saw a Digimagic on Ebay for $99 with 1.5 hours left. THen I prices a 1 gig memory card and it was on sale for $128 through amazon, so I just got the 1 g memory card instead. Less to travel with.

Could you please explain how this works, I borrowed an EOS Rebel and I have 512 card. how do you download on to the medial storage card, I see them advertised for aroound $40.00. Leaving on 8/28 on the Spirit.
