lyn145 Posted November 16, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2006 We're cruising the Caribbean in February and will be visiting St Martin, St Thomas and San Juan. Which of these ports of call is best to buy fine jewelry? Of course, I'm looking for good quality, great design and low prices :-)...
LaPaloma Posted November 16, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 16, 2006 By far we have found St Thomas to have the most variety and price--it's also a year round market--a lot of the islands cut way back during summer months. You will find most of the World wide jewelry outlets are available on St Thomas!

This maybe true if you are a novice and know nothing about jewelry--but we lived and worked in the Caribbean for 20 years. We know people in the business on many of the Islands including St Thomas-- with care-- in the right stores-- there are good deals. Like in all buying--do your homework and be careful. Don't buy a "genuine" Rolex for $75.00!
Jim Avery Posted November 18, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2006 I agree with Lapaloma, we have made some very good buys in the Caribbean. Yes, you must choose your dealer wiseley but most are just doing business, not selling junk. This April in Old San Juan, Lois bought some beautiful diamond earrings. As always, when we got home we have our finds appraised at the local jeweler for insurance and lo and behold, the earrings appraised for $5000 more than we paid. Makes you want to cruise more. All the best, Jim.
