Spirit Class Overhead Bunks

I will be cruising the Costa Mediterranea next month and my cabin has 2 upper bunks that come down from the ceiling (or wall). We won't be using these bunks unless we just use the mattresses to add to our lower bed. My questions are:

Do these bunks get in the way if we are putting our lower beds together to make a double bed (will we hit our heads or have a problem with them)?

Do they store away in the ceiling or the wall? If in the wall I expect it would be a problem maneuvering in & out of bed.

Assuming we can use the mattresses (I hear the mattresses on this ship are very thin & we would want a topper anyway), Can the upper bunks be utilized for suitcase storage, etc.

Any input from anyone who has been on these ships would be appreciated

The upper beds are away in the ceiling. THey wont be taken down til needed. SInce there is only 2 of you then you wont even see them.

I am very surprised to hear the cruiseline allowed you to book a cabin that holds 4 people if there is only 2 of you.
