Question about the Pearl

We are booked on the Pearl for Alaska... I am so confused on all of the specialty restaurants. We did NCL a while back and the only specialty restaurant was Le Bistro and you had to pay for it. Looking at the Pearl there are many... Do you have to pay extra for ALL the restaurants that are not the two main restaurants?????? Just wondering. If so how much extra are they? Surely all of them are not extra, or at least I am hoping not. The NCL website and brouchures are so vague...

Thank you for your help.

There are several reviews here for the recent TA crossing of the Pearl. See the one's from SnorklinBarb and Shoreguy. Take a peek and you'll have some of your answers.

You only pay for the specialty restaurants (Le Bistro, Cagney's - steakhouse, Teppynaki - similar to Benihana's, Lotus Garden - asian fusion). You do not have to pay for the non specialty restaurants - but you do have to make reservations for a few of them (I believe Mambos and La Cucina).

That was a bit confusing to me too before we sailed on NCL for our first time.

If you want to save a few dollars, reserve for the 530 (and I believe the 600 as well) seating in the specialty restaurants - the surchage is 1/2 of the normal fee.

Did you join the roll call for your cruise? I know you didn't ask, but I am a firm believer in the CC roll calls. Our meet and greet was really nice - you get to meet all of the folks, or at least most in our case, that you've been writing to and corresponding with prior to your crusie.

When are you going on the Pearl? We are scheduled for her respositioning cruise from the West coast back to Florida in September. I am so looking forward to the trip.

Have a wonderful cruise!

Ciao,

Shoreguy has the same prices we paid for the restaurants on that cruise. There was some confusion as the daily program initially showed La Cucina as bearing a surcharge when it didn't and that there was no surcharge at lunchtime for the Asian restaurant - and there was.

The 5.30 and 6pm sittings at the Bistro and Cagneys were booked up solid when we tried but are incredibly good value at half price. The half price offer does not however apply if you order the a la carte or extra special meals when you will pay full price ($20 I think) anytime you dine.

I dined at the Bistro at the end of the cruise and regretted not going at least 5 or 6 times, it was the best for us.

Cagneys was also good but somehat strange on the service, one evening we had an Indian waiter who was in a real rush and kept saying "AND" every other word and the second time we had a tall blonde lady who kept spilling our expensive wine on the tablecloth every time she attempted to pour it.

Steaks in Cagney's? One good , one not so good, maitred' didn't charge us when he saw the inferior steak and also offered to get us filet.

You have to remember this was an inaugaral cruise and the crew were settling down. We thought it was better than we expected.
