We stayed on deck 6 Balcony. Convenient location. Casino is on deck 5 where we spent most of our time. This time we will be on Lido with balcony. Closer to the food.:) Having a balcony is great. I like having a quiet space all to myself to go to.

We are going to stay in a balcony room right below the lido deck. We are on the Veranda deck. You will be passing us and boarding the ship as we get off! I wish I could sneak in your suitcase and get back on.

We have never been on the Conquest, but we met a couple who had cruised 25 times and state that the Conquest is their favorite ship of all time and they won't cruise on any other ship now. That is why we chose this cruise.

Have fun on your cruise........It's so close, yet so FAR AWAY!

I am also interested in seeing the Capers. But I really would like to know about the huge moving screen. Do they post what movies they will show all week? or do you only see what movie is playing that night in the daily capers? We would like to get to see what is playing all week so that we can choose what night we want to do this? ANyone know?

1. Is there a reason not to book the cruise now (4-5 months in advance) or should we go ahead and get'r done now?

 

2. Since it's our first cruise we're thinking 'bout an ocean view room instead of a balcony...should we let Carnival select our room and hope for a free upgrade or should we pick our cabin location?

 

3. And finally (for now anyway)...My wife may have an issue with seasickness ...from what I've read the back of the ship seems like the most stable...is this accurate? Are there noise issues from the engines or above decks? Opinion on aft-view cabins...

My husband and I are considering this cruise for 2009 since we live in Texas. Has anyone stayed in a balcony room on this ship and which deck do you prefer?

 

I really enjoyed cabin 7343 on the Empress deck. It's close (but not too close) to elevators, stairs, and laundry. Deck 7 is also between other passenger decks, so noise isn't an issue. This cabin, being mid-ship and about halfway up from sea level, is steady with little noticeable motion!

1. Is there a reason not to book the cruise now (4-5 months in advance) or should we go ahead and get'r done now? I would book now. The prices could change at any time. If your catagory has a price drop between the time you booked and your final payment you could get On Board Credit.

 

2. Since it's our first cruise we're thinking 'bout an ocean view room instead of a balcony...should we let Carnival select our room and hope for a free upgrade or should we pick our cabin location? If money is not an issue go for the balcony. I prefer to pick my own cabin. Upgrades are few and far between these days so I would not count on that. You do come out cheaper most of the time if you let them pick for you. I am too picky about where I want to be.:)

 

3. And finally (for now anyway)...My wife may have an issue with seasickness ...from what I've read the back of the ship seems like the most stable...is this accurate? Are there noise issues from the engines or above decks? Opinion on aft-view cabins... For stability I would go mid-ship. I'm sure there would be a certain amount of noise back there just not sure how bad. Bring Bonine or she can try the wrist bands for sickness. I have never stayed in an Aft cabin so could not tell you much about those.

Do get a balcony if you can. You will have a place to get away from the world when you choose!

For seasickness... A patch? We seem to have been aft lately. We have had no problem with stability.

1. I booked mind about 5 months out.

 

2. If you can afford the difference, get a balcony. I've had both and I can't go back to an ocean view room. It is sooooooo worth it having your own little space - sit out there at night. Awesome! Just get it. Go for it!

 

3. I heard green apples work and the ship provides you with meds if needed as well. Our dining was in the back of the ship and it was rough!!!!! So, stay mid ship. Of course, the lower you are in the ship, the less swaying you will do in your room if seas are a little rough.

 

Have fun - I'm ready to go back. Was on there is in January!!

Texas residents only get to bring in 1 liter of booze back with them. My mom lives in Louisiana and could bring back 3 liters with her. Booze is cheap on the ship - didn't check any other places. The ship will take it when you board from a port and give it back to you at the end of the cruise.

We just bought a liter of "can't get it in the US" rum in Jamaica for $16. Appleton.

 

Warning: The woman in the duty free shop would not take US cash that was not the new (colored) kind. We had to go back to the ship for a swap.

 

You are aware that you can only bring 1 litre per adult duty free.

Yeah...I read something about ginger too. She'll probably try those since they won't put her to sleep.

I used to be extremely sea sick, but I take the ginger capsules every day on my cruise and only when we have VERY HIGH seas, do I get sick. You can get them at Walmart for like $5 for 100 Capsules. I take 2 when I first board than one every 3 or 4 hours.....if the sea's get bad I wait till bedtime to take dremamine, it helps me sleep as well.

I have not heard this and I have never done this, in fact I use Ginger when I feel car sick even taking it AFTER it has already started and it stops the feeling w/in about 30 minutes...

We will be aboard the Conquest in April and I want to do a tour with Native Way in Grand Cayman. I am a bit confused with the time. Move your clock back, forward, daylight savings and all. Ship arrives in port at 7am and leaves at 4pm. Native way says tour departs pier at 8:30am central time and arrives back at pier at 1:45pm central time.

 

My question is whether the ship time is the same as Native Way's time. If it is, I will have plenty of time. It would be nice to have an hour or so to check out the town also. Can anyone clear this time thing up for me?:confused:

You will have time to do the Native Way tour...BUT-it moves right along timewise..We didn't have much time at Rum Point...We ate lunch, went to the gift shop, sat for a few minutes and then it was time to go..

When you get back, you may not have time to look around town...By time we got back it was time to get on the tender...It was a fun day though, especially getting up close with the sting rays....and the water is beautiful...

I know this is the Conquest thread, but I'm curious about this Appleton Rum; why is it so special? Why don't they sell it in the states? Best rum I've found so far is Mount Gay from Barbados.

Has anyone taken the starfish tour on one cruise and the Rum Point tour on another? Is Rum point worth the extra $22 or so? Or would the extra time be better spent looking around town?
