newcruiser79 Posted January 22, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2007 It sounds like Jan/Feb is the best time of year to take a SA cruise. The itinerary we want only has rooms available in the end of March. This sends most of our cruise into late march/early april. I'm worried that since its the end of the season, we wont see as much wild life (penguins) and that the weather will be much colder. We did a Med. Cruise towards the end of the season and many of the shops and such were already shut down. Anyone been on a late march cruise? Is it better to get a slightly different itineray and go in Jan/Feb? Aussie Gal Posted January 23, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2007 It will be coming into autumn for the southern countries such as Argentina and Chile. I imagine that down south it could be quite cold. We were there in January last year and in Ushuaia and Punta Arenas it was necessary to wear a windcheater or a long sleeved top. We were extremely lucky in Puerto Mott as we had a glorious sunny day with no wind but it had been quite cool and wet up until the day we arrived so that could also be quite cool. If you go prepared with the right clothing, you should still have a wonderful cruise. We went in January because we went to Antarctica and there are only a few cruises that visit that area and they are always in December or early January.
