laidbackin LA Posted January 23, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2007 How many classes of yoga can I buy? I'm on a nine-day Mexican cruise starting Feb 9. And how much is it?

caviargal Posted January 24, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2007 It was 12 dollars a class plus 15% service charge. VERY basic classes, mostly breathing and stretching. Not for yogis.
YD66 Posted January 24, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2007 there's also an early morning "breathing and stretching" class that's free. Jeffrey
BigDogMom Posted January 24, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2007 DEfinitely not for yogis. More for those who have just started yoga or never taken a class.
YD66 Posted January 24, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2007 if you enjoy doing yoga in a class setting, you'll still enjoy the classes on the ship. even if it's "easy" you can always go a little deeper and take it to the next level ... 'cuz it's not about the yoga, really, it's what you bring to it. Jeffrey

Jeffrey Perhaps for some but these classes barely get off the floor and there was not a single sun salutation, so hard to take it up a few notches IMO. I did bring my mat and simply used a side area in off times for my personal practice, though I do prefer the energy of a class.
YD66 Posted January 25, 2007 #8 Share Posted January 25, 2007 caviargal, i couldn't agree more about getting in the sun salutations. if you're going to stretch it's pretty darn important to warm up the body. my comments, btw, were based on my own experience of being a Kundalini Yoga practitioner/instructor. we don't really do many sun salutations, but we also don't do Ashtanga type movement. caviargal Posted January 25, 2007 #9 Share Posted January 25, 2007 Jeffrey, I am a Vinyasa fan so sun salutations are the core of my practice. I wish I had started younger because I would have loved to have practiced ashtanga. Namaste.
laidbackin LA Posted January 26, 2007 Author #10 Share Posted January 26, 2007 Thank you for the comments. I am an enthusiastic beginner, so's my husband: it is a great stress-buster and good for anti-diabetes for him.
YD66 Posted January 26, 2007 #11 Share Posted January 26, 2007 caviargal, i love Vinyasa! my first class ever was a combo of Vinyasa and Iyengar ... it got me hooked. --------------------------------------------------------- laidbackin LA, if you don't mind getting up early (7 or 730am?) check out the free class. i don't think the paid classes are much different. vande gurunam charanaravinde! laidbackin LA Posted January 26, 2007 Author #12 Share Posted January 26, 2007 We are early-risers on cruises, so I'll take the tip about the stretch class. That's what we two are after in Yoga, the reaching and stretching to achieve good energy-flow. My husband came from India many years ago, so he is all-reverent about yoga.
