blmcdps Posted January 29, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2007 Is it an advantage to be put into a group? Does the TA get the same price or a different price? What price do we pay. Please help, don't really understand the whole group thing. Is it good or bad.
lvtotrvl1 Posted January 29, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2007 A group generally will receive certain amenties on board, such as OBC, champagne is stateroom etc. The price may be lower than the cruiseline price, but it also depends on when you book into the group. Most large agencies have groups on ships and you may not even know if you are booked into a group or not. If you give a little more information, we may be able to help more. Is this a group of your friends etc, or are you booking into a general agency group?
blmcdps Posted January 29, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted January 29, 2007 We are a group of friends that make up a total of five cabins. I did not think that was enough to make up a group. Don't you need 8 cabins to be a group. So if we are considered a group, have we been added to a group of other people sailing on this same date. It is better to be in a group? piercetc4 Posted January 29, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 29, 2007 being in a group can be good- onboard amenities are nice for one thing and if you are coming in a day early the hotel may offer you a group rate- a group booking holds the prices at same rate until the booking time frame runs out- can be 3-6 months from what i can tell- so if prices go up you are able to book with the group at what the prices were when they blocked out the rooms......hope this makes sense? we booked with an online agency once- i found out we were part of a group booking - price was same as rci website- no group perks- so that time, being in a group booking had no advantage - we are part of a group for oct 2007 - getting dinner at specialty rest., 35 casino $ - and group leader doing several giveaways (door prizes) price was same as rci site but now price has gone up 50 pp but those booking with the group get the old lower price til the time runs out for booking with the group-
barbarah33 Posted January 29, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2007 As long as you have more than one cabin you can be a group on a cruise. Of course the more people you have and the more cabins you take the better the benefits including price, amenities in your stateroom, etc. I once organized a group for a cruise that was to be about 20 people and we all kind of told friends about it who told other friends and before you knew it we had over 70 in our group. The cruise line gave us our own check-in line, they threw us a private cocktail party, offered us a photographer one night for a group picture wherever we wanted it on the ship and gave each person a free 8 X 10. For a smaller group like yours just having your reservation numbers crossed with one another is good so you'll be sure to be assigned the same table in the dining room, if that's what you chose. WinterEscape Posted January 29, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2007 Every cruise I have gone on has been a group cruise with varying size (6-47). It started with family and now includes friends and family. On a cruise, I prefer going with a group. You do receive some amenities and if you get 8 cabins booked, one person in an inside cabin gets a free place. My husband and I who usually plan the trip often get that perk. In my opinion, the more the merrier. My husband and I have enjoyed our cruises when multiple people go because it gives you the opporitunity to spend time with different people!
