Can someone tell me if we have a good cabin location?

My husband and I are cruising to Alaska on the Zaandam in September. We are on the Veranda deck starboard side three quarters of the way down. I was just wondering whether or not there are any view obstructions or noisy areas. Also we are in category B if we upgrade what would we upgrade to? Thanks in advance for your help!

There shouldn't be any obstructions of your view. As I recall there isn't anything particularly noisy in that area. Take a good look at the layout of the ship that is on the HAL website. Not knowing the cabin number makes it difficult to be more explicit.

If you're far enough back to be under the deck area around the aft pool you could get some noise from deck chairs being moved around.

You could go to AA, which would be either farther forward on the same deck or one deck above where you are, or A, which would be one deck up, or S - the Deluxe Suite - one deck up. Unless you wanted to go to the S for the extra room and the amenities, I wouldn't bother trying to upgrade, since the AA and A are just the same as B except for location - which isn't greatly different. :)

I went to the Holland site and looked at deck plans but I can't really make out where the pool, bar, or casino are.

Thanks everyone for all your help!

It is a bit hard on HAL's site because they only show you one deck at a time, but in the "catalogs" all the decks are laid out side by side.

Tell us what your cabin number is and you'll have a number of volunteers tell you exactly what you're above and below! :D

You are below other cabins on the Navigation deck, and above either the Explorer's Lounge, some restrooms, or the King's Room section of the dining room. You shouldn't have any noise problems. :)

In the catalog, the decks aren't always perfectly lined up, so comparing one deck to another can be tricky.

Use the elevators to establish a fixed position. Then see where your cabin is, relative to the elevators. Compare this to the position of the casino or bar, relative to the same elevators.
