Re Sunday Shopping in Gdansk

Recommended Posts

Does anypne know if the jewelry stores & other shopping venues will be open on a Sunday in Gdansk, Poland during the peak summer cruise season?

We will be in Gdansk on Sunday, July 8, while cruising on the Star Princess & really want to be able to purchase amber jewelry. For those that know, would you recommend being safe & purchasing amber jewelry while in Tallinn instead of waiting & finding the shops closed?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I'm also interested in the answer to this question as we also have a Sunday stop in Poland.

I have also read that Tallinn does have some good values for shopping as opposed to Copenhagen, Oslo & Stockholm which are more expensive places to shop.

Old Town of Gdansk is a very busy place during the summer. All shops, also boutiques offering breathtaking amber jewellery stay open on Sundays. As far as I remeber they are open from 9am to 7 pm.

I checked our August 2006 itinerary and we were in Gdansk on a Sunday last year. Almost all stores were open. It was very busy in most of the streets/alleys because of the St. Dominican Faire. Lots of outside vendors and tons of amber jewelry everywhere. I didn't buy any amber jewelry, just so overwhelmed with being in this quaint part of town and seeing all the little tents with stuff. We just ate our way through Gdansk! Tried all the street food that looked good, smelled good, or had a long line forming with the locals. We did buy a couple bottles of liquor from a local liquor store. Really wished our ship docked closer and we could spend more time in this great city.

Thanks for the replies!

From reading Gdansk websites I could see that a few things are closed and some are open on Sundays. This has been very helpful. We'll do the Gdansk on Your Own as there will be lots of things to walk around and see.
