Water Taxi to Truck Bay?

Bellarose

Recommended Posts

Hello,

If you want to visit St. John (and go to Trunk Bay) on your own you would need to take the ferry from either Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook and they would take you to Cruz Bay (the main 'town' on St. John). If you go to google.com and search for St. John Ferry Schedule USVI you will find some sites with ferry information.

There is a private water taxi, it for the most part operates out of Red Hook, and would likely also drop you in Cruz Bay. More information on that at: http://viwatertaxi.com/

BellaRose, if you take the ferry from Red Hook it will take you 15-20 minutes to get to Cruz Bay on St. John. The ferry from Charlotte Amalie takes about 45 minutes and can be a rougher ride than the one from Red Hook.

Here is what www dot vinow dot com (at the top of its page) says about the cost of the ferry from Red Hook:

Rates: One-way, $5/Adults and $1.00/Children ages 2-11. Seniors are $1.25 (VI Residents only, 62 years and up, proof of age must be shown). There is a charge of $2/piece for luggage/boxes.

Time: 15 to 20 minutes

It runs on the hour.

You can find the info on the other ferry at that site, too.

Have fun planning. It is well worth it to go to St. John.

It's true that the Red Hook-Cruz Bay ferry takes half the time (or less) than the one from Charlotte Amalie-Cruz Bay ferry. However, you do need to factor in the 15 to 20 minutes taxi ride (or slightly longer bus ride) from the pier to Red Hook. Adding the time and cost of the taxi to the cost of the Red Hook ferry comes out to be about the same as the CA ferry. There's really no overall time or money saving whatsoever taking the Red Hook ferry versus the Charlotte Amalie ferry. However, the Red Hook ferry runs more often.

The CA ferry ride was definitely rougher, but not so much that we got sea sick or were frightened. The scenery and St. Thomas coastline views were spectacular. We took the Red Hook ferry over and the CA ferry on our return.

Hello,

If you are docked in Havensight then its about 1.4 miles to CA (where the ferry leaves from) and if you are at Crown Bay then its a little further... about 1.7 miles. If your ship anchors and you tender in then you'll be tendered right to the CA waterfront.
