onegraham Posted March 23, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2007 We just got off the Star yesterday. When you consider all of the factors that make up a cruise, we always come away a bit astonished at what the staff accomplishes. These workers are away from their families for 10 months at a time, never have a single day off in that time, work 10 to 15 hour days at difficult jobs in differing venues, (the servers and bar people work just for a share of the tip pool) - and still manage to be cheery and professional and to produce a superior product at astonishingly low prices. Some take incredible thoughtless acts and verbal abuse by passengers (the workers have no way of fighting back) and somehow learn to shake it off and do their job for the next group all over again. A single perceived slight or less than perfect step seems to give some passengers all the excuse they need to downgrade the whole amazing enterprise. We love to cruise and, yes, we were somewhat disappointed at the itinerary change but it didn't affect our cruise overall. We'll just have another excuse to return again. We are wowed by the NCL people, and were delighted once again by those on the Star. I only hope that we met their high expectations. onegraham@mac.com Moab, Utah

LateCruiser Posted March 23, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2007 A poor staff can lead to a bad cruise on the most beautiful ship, but a great staff can make a cruise on any ship great. That is what makes the Pearl exceptional (or as many of us like to say, "Simply Irresistable!"):D . She is a beautiful ship with an exceptional staff, from the Captain down to the deck hands.
