Considering a New Years cruise on the CF and wondered what others review is of this ship. Any comments, good and bad are appreciated. Never been on Costa but have heard the food is excellent, what about the other items on cruise? Thanks, Linda

Any input??? Just held space today for 02/2008 sailing. Must admit their website isn't the most helpful with deck plans and cabins. I have spent most of the day reading back thru threads about Costa. I don't know why we haven't tried them before now. I love the itinerary, it gives us a bonus visit to Grand Turks, the price is good, RT from Ft. Lauderdale, all pluses for me. Just still a little nervous...............but I must admit that this X1 drink plan is helping me decide! Thanks, Mary

Hi there

We sailed on Costa Fortuna last year, in fact 1 year ago today we returned home from this cruise

We thoroughly enjoyed it and my review is here

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=325521

Since then we have sailed on Costa Classica, Jewels of the Emirates and in October this year we will cruise around Greece on Costa Victoria. As we enjoyed the Emirates so much we have booked Costa Europa for the same itinerary for next February.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

Sugarbabe61, thanks for the link and nice review of your cruise. We have sailed with RCCL/Celebrity/Princess/HAL/Carnival and have enjoyed all the lines. Can anyone compare these lines to Costa? We are looking at booking the Costa Fortuna doing the Western Caribbean Itinerary. My Husband wanted to go back to Jamaica and I love Cozumel, so this seemed perfect because we have wanted to get to Grand Turks. I must admit I never price or even look at Costa as an option, so in one day I have tried to find out as much as possible. So far I have found that Costa seemes to have:

1. a new approach on the drink plans

2. the food is hit or miss

3. good staff and service

4. beautiful ships (not unlike some of the Carnival designs)

5. so/so entertainment

6. no lobster in the dinning room

7. charges for some room service and limited room service

8. 24/7 food available

9. midnight buffets every night

10. pool towels

11. bathrobes only in the suites

12. no shower gel or shampoo in the shower

Do I have this about right??? My Husband and I talked about the Fortuna cruise last night......and we are going for it. I am sure there are going to be things we don't like, but sounds like they will be a few new things that we will like. We are booking an O/V cabin 9201 at the very front of the ship. What are their cabins like? Size online with Carnival or Celebrity?

Also I choose the late dinning, does the late have (2) seatings and what time is dinner? I tried to go thru the Costa website for some of these questions, but I just didn't find it very helpful. Please don't flame me for any of my questions, I am not being smart or trying to start anything here. I spend a lot of time on CC and some of the boards are really getting mean. I just want to be prepared for the upcoming cruise and I don't like surprises that much. Plus my Husband doesn't usually get into any of this, so I like to have the answers for him. Example: I could care less about the lobster in the dinning room, but I have already informed him he can just buy me dinner one night in the speciality restaurant if he wants lobster! End of lobster in the dinning room issue. Thanks, Mary

4. beautiful ships (not unlike some of the Carnival designs)

-the ship layouts for magica and fortuna are similar to carnival's conquest class

the mediterania is similar to spirit. ship decore` is totally different if thats what you mean by design.

6. no lobster in the dinning room

-this is totally new this year, we'll have to wait until next year to see if they keep it or bring the lobster back.

10. pool towels

pool (deck) towels AND excursion towels in your room on port days.

11. bathrobes only in the suites

-if not in suite, you can ask your room steward.

12. no shower gel or shampoo in the shower

-we had shower gel (doubled as shampoo) on the magica. i do not know about fortuna's bathrooms. this is only one of the thousands of questions people are already asking since they are looking into booking fortuna for next year in the carib. but unfortunetly there's a complete lack of information about the fortuna in the carib since 07-08' will be its first year.

We have 6 couples booked in suites for New Years on Fortuna and may have 3 more couples book.

We found out that when the ship comes to Ft. Lauderdale and start sailing out of there the late dinner will be 8:15 pm, changed to US dinner times. Glad that will happen, we did not want to eat at 9 PM. We have also been told the slots will be changed to US coins from Euro.

I posted a roll call but have not had much response guess it is still too early, will repost later in summer. Linda

there are a few reviews of the fortuna on this site, but they are from european trips in the med. you wont find any on the fortuna in the carib because 07-08' will be the first carib season for her.

all information about the ship can be gathered thru pictures and reviews about the ship. but information such as dinner times should be extrapolated from reviews of the medditerania and magica in the caribbean since costa europe and costa caribbean sailings are very different in most respects.

think of it as more of a costa magica caribbean cruise but instead of the magica, sub in fortuna.

a complete void of reviews for fortuna in the carib has me thinking about taking her.:)

Hi Joe, Thanks for the comments. I have been reading all I can find on the web and looking at photos. Our TA told us the times for dinner would change as well as other things they do for the European market but will not do in the US market.

We have 6 couples booked so far and may have 3 more booked this week. We are all looking forward to a great New Years cruise and it sounds like Costa is a fun ship even if we are mostly seniors we still like to have a good time. We are not tour folks but enjoy the sailing and ship.

Hope they have a slot and blackjack tourniment, we like the casino and have heard their bingo is not too good. Linda:D
