What to do if you stay onboard in Ports???

We are going on the Pacific Star up the Queensland coast and I am wondering if the spa and pools are open when the ship is in port? What else is there happening onboard if you don't want to get off the ship? Just in case my elderly mum decides it's too much and wants to just stay on the ship.

Hi howsthis,

your mum can use the spa and pool etc, whenever the ship is in port.

there is usually a morning trivia, also watch a movie, the hairdresser is open if she would like her hair done.(but remember to book) even relax with a book somewhere quiet, with a nice cool drink.

go to the pursers desk and get a copy of the news.it's not much, but better than no news.

there are a few older people who choose to stay on board, maybe mum could see if any would like a game of cards..???

I am sorry I don't know the age group your mother is in, so excuse me if I am thinking too old for her......

maybe others have better ideas...

kind regards, Lorraine:) :)

You can basically do the same things on the ship when it is port, as you would on sea days. The only things that are closed on the ship while it is docked are the duty free shops & casino, there is also no bingo on port days:mad: .

Yep, spas and pool are open. The beauty spa and the hairdressers usually have some pretty decent specials on the port days too.

I would say that the day Cairns (or 2 if they cancel port douglas like the did to us) is the best as far as choosing what to do. If you get bored, you can just pop off the ship for a few minutes and walk around. We got off the ship the night we spent in cairns at 4 in the morning and then got back on for no other reason than because we could.

Star-man is right. You are already 'in town' when you dock here in Cairns. We have a good selection of coffee shops, and restaurants as well as a fine art gallery in Abbott St. and also our little museum in Shields St. is worth a look.

All contained within a few city blocks! We don't believe in rushing anything up here...just ask a local tradesman;) . I hope you enjoy our area!

Cheers

Except people who drive around the CBD when it comes to traffic lights. Every time we went to cross a road at the lights, there were always cars zooming around the corner and nearly hitting us. Even though the little green man on the lights said go.

Thanks Lorraine, she is 75 this year but pretty good for her age anyway. I don't think she will like getting off the ship by tender so I was wondering what to occupy her with but the cards thing is her favourite past-time so no worries there. I think she would be 'game' to use the spa and pool if there aren't too many there and I was hoping they would still be open. Might book her in for the head and shoulders frangipanni massage which I have heard many mention. Time's flying now, seems to take ages then you start to worry if you're going to have enough time to get everything ready. I am spending a weeks holiday with DH before I leave so lots to do. All exciting though, I want my mum to have the best possible time. Thanks again.

The coffee shops will be a definite stop, the last time I was in Cairns was nearly 25 years ago so I imagine a lot has changed. Can you walk from the ship into town or do you 'bus it'??

Hi howsthis, you can walk off ship and you are right near the casino. Cairns central shopping centre is not too far away from the wharf. it is air conditioned and plenty of shops, Myers etc, and plenty of coffee shops.

kindest regards, Lorraine:) :)
