gazetteer Posted April 10, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2007 Based on the pictures I have seen and accounts I have read attached is a simple map I created of Sea Diamonds grounding and final sinking. Nothing I read mentioned the ship being moved after the passengers were evacuated. However, the picture record clearly shows here final sinking in the area indicated. I assume she was towed there to prevent her sinking directly off the main dock for the town of Thira.

SDBabs Posted April 7, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2009 I was on the Aegean II and watched the rescue of the passengers of the Sea Diamond. It was being towed after everyone was off. I told my daughter I had always heard they tow them out to sea to sink them. It was dark as we watched it pass by, away from Santorini. I know it was towed because I saw it being towed away.
