Golden Princess Cat BF balcony cabins

Dear experienced cruisers:

We just booked and find we are on the Emerald Deck in the BF cabins, which look to be on or just above the Promenade Deck in the bow of the ship. Several posts I've read question the privacy.

I don't care about having a fully covered deck; would rather not have people walking by looking in the room. So, I am thinking about asking for a different catagory. We also have a group of people with us, 3 cabins booked at this point, on the same deck. Do you think the cruise line will upgrade, or should we ask the TA for upgrades, based on the number coming with us?

This will be our first Princess cruise, so your input would be wonderful!

These balconies are an odd set up - fully covered but they are set back from the railing of the ship by the Promenade Deck which runs about 6 ft. below your balcony. Thus you cannot see the water except by looking straight out.

People walking by on Promenade deck can see you on your balcony, though the glass on the balcony wall is tinted.

I believe this Promenade walkway is closed after 8 pm at night.

Personally, looking at these balconies while walking on Promenade deck, I said I would never book those as I cannot see the water/get no direct sunlight and do not have privacy.

I would not count on an upgrade if these cabins are booked and already assigned.

If you think you will dislike the balcony, pay to be upgraded - do not hope for an upgrade that may not materialize.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks for the info, LTGF. I think I will campaign hard with the TA to see if we can upgrade. Rooms haven't been assigned, but we booked 3 rooms and there are only 8 in that catagory.

Happy cruising to you!

A fellow member has a photo online of the Star Princess that gives us a very good idea of what those BE/BF balcony cabins on the Golden are like:

I was initially thinking about booking a BE cabin on the Golden Princess, but after seeing this photo, I quickly ran for another cabin.

Thanks for the link to the photo; phoned the TA and now we have BA cabins on Caribe without paying extra! It may be because our group is going, and I made a point of telling how many people we brought to book thru them?? Whatever, it worked and I am totally pleased.

Thanks to all for the advice!

Has anyone stayed in one of the BF cabins on the Golden Princess? We will be staying in one for our trip to Hawaii. I've had several balcony rooms and I like a covered balcony. These seem very protected from the elements and can be used for more living space. We tend to leave our door open so we can hear the ocean :)
