Another cruise newbie!!

No experience yet - we're on Braemar in September. But I have certainly read-up a lot about her.

You probably already know that she's quite small, just 20,000 tons - she's one of two ships built in the early 90s that were intended to provide high-quality, intimate cruising, possibly to smaller, off-beat destinations. In their first incarnations they were chartered to Cunard, but didn't last long there. I think that Braemar struggled to find a niche for a few years as the major lines built ever bigger ships - Braemar was definitely not the sort of ship they wanted to have. But then Fred Olsen bought her in 2000 and I think she's very definitely found her niche with them. Not the right ship if you want glitz or glamour, but for cruising on a friendly & intimate scale, I gather she's perfect - many repeat cruisers. I'm very much looking forward to my cruise on her in September.
