info needed in ports???

DH and I are traveling with our DL's, 2 certified copies per person of BC's and marriage license (in case I need it to show link between BC name and DL name). Our thoughts were that we would leave one BC in safe and take other one onshore. Questions:

Am I correct in thinking we will need BC and DL everytime we get on and off the ship?

If anything were to happen to our BC's while on land would they allow someone to escort us to our cabin to produce our other BC's?

Would you recommend Xeroxing any other items...DL's?

They sometimes require a picture i.d. to be taken along with you when you leave the ship. Although, they rarely ever ask for it! Yes, we do it. We carry drivers license and copies of the passports. Will you need them and do they require them? Usually not.

In reality, you don't need your marriage license because every cruise line knows that most adult women won't have the same last name as they did when they were born. As long as your cruise ticket and the name on your photo ID have the same name, then there's no need for a marriage license. In all my 49 cruises, they've never asked for a marriage license or divorce decree. They only other time they want a marriage license is if you're underage---say you just got married and you're only 19 and the cruise line rules are you need to be 21, or married, in order to cruise without a parent or guardian.

When you get off the ship in ports, all you need to carry with you is your sign and sail card and your photo ID. Some like to carry a color copy of their passport, and that's a good idea, but you don't need to carry your BC with you.

Hello,

As usual Kitty/Darcie has provided you with excellent information.

I'll add this....when you check in, the cruise representative will look over your documents including your passports (and the cruise line may take your passports from you and return them to you at the end of your cruise) and issue you a sign and sail card which is a multi purpose card. You will use this card to get on and off the ship and for any purchases you make while on the ship. Every passenger has a sign and sail card. The issuance of the sign and sail card is recognition by the cruise line, that you have cleared security and that you are financially responsible enough to sail on that ship on that day.

You should carry a picture ID with you in addition to your sign and sail card. And it is a very good idea to have a copy of the passports but it is not necessary to take these or your original passports with you when you leave the ship.

Cruise lines encourage passengers to prepare their cruise documents on line and you should do this as soon as you can do so.

And...do not worry about this because the cruise business is very, very important to local economies and hassling cruise passengers is clearly understood as a major no no.

Hope that this helps.

Fred
