We are not taking some optional tours in St. Petersburg so as to learn more about the XX Century history of the city and less of palaces since we will see the Hermitage and Peterhof.

IF you would like to learn more about the XX Century history and politics of St. Petersburg and Russia with two special walking tours around the city.

WITH Peter’s Walking Tours, a lauded tour company as reported…

BY NY TIMES, April 22, 2007

With its czarist-era palaces and monuments and boulevards, St. Petersburg is a wonderful city for wandering. But if you find those Cyrillic signs daunting, Peter's Walking Tours (www.peterswalk.com) offers all sorts of jaunts, typically at only 400 rubles a person, with some focused on themes like the Communist legacy, the Siege of Leningrad or Dostoyevsky. The tours typically last three or four hours, and have the feel of an informal stroll with a friend. The young guides speak excellent English and know not only the history behind the major sites, but also the city's nooks and crannies.

There are 220 people on our cruise and not one has responded so far.

Is this usual?

The walking tours that we booked will be a welcome relief from palace overload and bring us closer to the St. Pete street as we take public transport from one site to another.

The tours are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and, if we get one more couple, only $US80 for each couple per tour.

If we get three more couples and complete the 8 tour members the cost per couple is only $US40 per tour,or, only about $US8 per hour.

SO.....JOIN US!!!

We are Paul and Isabel and live in Aventura Florida which is half way between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.

If you are on our Grand Circle Russian Waterways Tour perhaps you would like to join us.

We are not on the list of participants yet because we only purchased the tour about 3 weeks ago.

Our email is pfriedman@the-beach.net.

Unfortunately, there are very few GCT travelers that are CC members. We've been on three and never did meet anyone. But...we'll keep posting and hoping.
