shots needed for

Chorts

Recommended Posts

middle eastern cruise? We are doing a 24 day cruise which begins in Rome and visits Egypt, India, Dubia, Oman, Malaysia, Thailand, and ends in Singapore. How important are shots/vaccinations for visiting these ports when cruising? I have read the CDC sites that recommend, Hep A, yellow fever, typhoid, diptheria, etc.

We were to several of these ports on a world cruise this past year and we will be to on a world cruise next year.

Let me recommend that you pull together the list of ports and see your medical doctor to get recommendations on what you should get. Another option is to contact a medical facility that specializes in travel. In our case, we first consulted with our doctor and because a yellow fever shot was required we ended up going to a place called Passport Health for that vaccination. Their url is http://www.passporthealth.com

They were very helpful in working with us to figure out what optional vaccinations we should get.

In our case we did require a Yellow Fever Shot but if I remember correctly that was because of a particular country requirement in Africa. Your cruise line should be able to let you know if you require a yellow fever shot.

In terms of the optional vaccinations, we took the vaccination (we got the pills) for typhoid along with a shot and then a followup shot for Hepatitus. Also, be sure that your tetanus vaccination is up to date. You should have one every ten years. We also got a flu shot.

For our next cruise we are currently investigating what we will need for India. Our plan is to get a recommendation from the Passport Health medical facility later in the year and we have already done preliminary research on the CDC web site.

So, in short, confirm with the cruise line whether or not you need a Yellow Fever Shot. And, then consult with your doctor or some other medical experts such as Passport Health, etc. who specialize in this to figure out what is best for you.
