sbwmail Posted June 19, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2007 My friend...really, not me! Is afraid to ask, so I will...She is thinking about booking a cabin next to lifeboats, and she wondered if they bang into the ship and make noise at night during rough seas? Do they, or are they attached so tightly so that there is no movement of the lifeboats? Anyone have trouble with this?
imnance Posted June 19, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2007 I had cabin 4186 on the Miracle last month. There was a life boat directly to the left of my balcony. I never heard anything and we had some rough seas on the way home. Actually, that was a great cabin. I hope I get it again in April.

chasetf Posted June 19, 2007 #5 Share Posted June 19, 2007 We have had a couple of situations where the lifeboat / tender was not secured tightly, and did bang and make noise. A quick call to the purser took care of the problem. They got someone out right away to take care of it. ;)
springtxbill Posted June 19, 2007 #6 Share Posted June 19, 2007 The lifeboats must remain securely attached or they will get damaged from the movement. That is why they secured them so quickly.:)
rebeljohn Posted June 19, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 19, 2007 As you can see by the picture below, the lifeboats were lined up outside of our cabin on the Miracle. Even during rough seas, we never heard a sound from them. http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2956385880041895530uEcvPg
vowsatsea Posted June 19, 2007 #8 Share Posted June 19, 2007 We also had lifeboats outside our balcony, and we sailed through a tropical storm on the way home, and didn't hear a thing. They're usually secured very tightly.
sho Posted June 19, 2007 #9 Share Posted June 19, 2007 Absolutely no noise at all. However you won't get any seaview. Also if the ship is docked in the sea, lifeboats will be used for tender services. They will be moved up and down and this is noisy. Sometimes maintenance crews do the cleaning and stare right into your cabin.

We saw out our balcony just fine, as the lifeboats were more below us than in front of us.

LoveThisCruisingThing Posted June 20, 2007 #12 Share Posted June 20, 2007 I had a lifeboat outside my window on my cruise last year. Never did it swing, bang, etc. In fact the only time I heard it was at 530 am when we got to Ketchikan as that was the tender to take us to shore.
