Rare HeinBloed Posted June 19, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2007 How is the best way to get to the ship in Southampton to and from London? London - Heathrow or Gatwick??? These are three different places: Best is car/taxi/limo/rent-a-car Public: London: Southwest Trains or National Express. Heathrow: National Express Gatwick: Southern Railways All offers direct (without transfer) services to Southampton. If you want to get to the pier ask your cruise company if they provide shuttles as well. Regards, HeinBloed

Len3 Posted July 3, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted July 3, 2007 It seems that the train schedules from Gatwick to and from Southampton haven't been posted for October as yet. Do they run frequently and should we have a reservation or just hop on?

Do they run frequently and should we have a reservation or just hop on?The current timetable is valid until 8 December 2007. See this page on the train operating company's website. The National Rail interactive journey planner only allows you to get information up to three months ahead, which is why the TOCs' websites are often a source of useful further information. Basically, there is one train per hour during the day (but no direct trains on Sundays). I would have thought it unlikely that you'd need reservations; certainly, they're not compulsory. You might want to note that there is, for all practical purposes, no direct National Express service from Gatwick to Southampton. You have to go to central London, which is just a pointless waste of time.

Yes the timetables are posted, but if you want the cheap tickets they are only released 6-8 weeks prior to departure
