ritak Posted June 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2007 I am asking a question for my sis, a first time cruiser. I did a private tour of the falls (and loved it) when my ship docked in Ochos Rios, but I thought she would be better off booking a tour through RCCL since her ship docks at Montego Bay. It's a two hour drive and to insure safety and getting back to the ship on time, perhaps this would be the way to go. What do you all think? Thanks! Bebet Posted July 4, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2007 the best thing about booking it through the cruise line is that if the tour is late getting back, the ship will wait. We were there in May and it was really raining and flooding. The roads are terrible. The bus was about 1.5 hours late getting back to the ship. I was told that they were given a police escort at one point. If you'd been on a private tour, they wouldn't have waited. As for safety, nothing is gauranteed, ask the people who where robbed last month while on a tour in Montego Bay, you never know what's going to happen. kircaldy007 Posted July 12, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2007 I'm also considering a trip to Dunn's Falls from Montego Bay thru Royal Carib.- just wondering if it's worth the long bus ride?
Capt_BJ Posted July 12, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2007 I would not do Dunn's from Montego Bay ... not worth the time on the bus or the anxiety of worrying about getting back on time. Just my 2 cents but I've been to DRF many times and would not consider it worth the 'investment' to go there from MB on a one day stop.
wwbill4 Posted July 12, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2007 We changed from a RC cruise to a carnival cruise in march as the Carnival cruise ship stops in Ochios Rios and not Montego Bay. Going to Dunn's is a haull from Montego Bay. You spend more time on the bus than you do at the falls. Bill
samtig Posted July 13, 2007 #6 Share Posted July 13, 2007 It is a long, bumpy ride but very much worth it in our opinion. I debated a long time on going to the falls but am so glad I did. It was the highlight of that cruise. We usually do non-cruise line excursions, but I would book this one through the cruise line to ensure you don't miss the ship. Capt_BJ Posted July 13, 2007 #7 Share Posted July 13, 2007 DRF is one of the better things to do in JA .... as I said, I've been there a bunch and if DW was along I know that she does NOT enjoy the roads in the islands.... However if you can accept an hour plus on JA roads as part of the adventure...... But if you've never experienced to wonders of island roads and drivers  My problem with the plan is also a dislike for the typical ship tour. They have you believe that the tour is get there. ZGo to the bottom of the falls .... climb the falls holding hands, in one line, with a guide; tip the guide ... run the vendor gauntlet and leave. HumBug ..... admission to the falls is admission to a national park where the falls are sort of a water park attraction. There's also a beach. When I've gone, I've been in Ocho on r&r and we'd spend all day .... climb up down and sideways....find hard and harder paths, chill in the pools and have a BBQ on the beach (special arangement). Check the length of the tour ... factor in a hour plus ride each way. Determine if you are interested in a bus ride that may be on par with Space Mountain. Then decide if it is worth it.
