Help me convince my sons-in-law

Dear Fellow Disney Cruise Fans,

What shipboard activities would be the most appealing to the two young dads in our family? (aged 32 & 34) Plans are made, and deposits down, but my daughters fear that their husbands will change their minds and back out.

These are good dads, who enjoy playing with their children, but they are practical men who are chafing about the expense.

I know that there are basketball courts; what else would they look forward to?

Personally, I believe that once they get on board, they will love it! :D

Any thoughts?

There is a sports bar on board (lots of bars for that matter) great adult comedy shows at night. If they like competition there nothing like making a car out of a potato and a carrot and seeing if yours can win the race. LOL

My mom wondered about my husband and my brother too when our families went. Both of them love to travel, but both "don't like to be cooped up". So, mom took care of that...she paid for the entire trip to make sure that nobody even thought of backing out. LOL As it turned out, they loved it, and we're going again...much because the guys thought it was "the best trip ever".

You've described my 31 year old husband to a tee! What has really helped to get him excited is to go through the "Daily Pictures Thread" on the DIS boards. He's gotten to see so many aspects of the ship, and some amazing pictures of how much the kids enjoy it. Now he's as excited as the rest of us to get on board. :)

When my friends travel with their husbands ~ they enjoy a dinner (just adults) or brunch at Paolo's; they enjoy the trivia contests; and when cruising the Carribbean the men enjoy the casino while the women and children go on tours or hit the pool. This last time they even decided to pool their money and book the Roy Disney suite!

Plus they had time with just Dad and kids, just Dads and family time.

But then the families go to Disneyland or Disneyworld every year so this wasn't that much of a stretch for them.

Good luck. Once they get on board (as adults) they will find that there are enough areas with and without kids that they will enjoy themselves.

My husband, son and I have been on four Disney cruises and my husband has never complained about a lack of activity.

I've seen plenty of contented dads enjoying a cocktail at the adults-only pool on the Wonder while their kids were in the Oceaneers Club.

The gym is a fun place to work out and the spa treatment " couples exotic rasul" is a good way to spend time with a spouse in a room with steam, spa items like oil and mud and a no-questions asked policy.

The late night entertainment is definitely for adults. My husband and I went to see the comedians whose late shows are a little bawdier, the game shows and the dance nights every night. The wine tasting is also a lot of fun. The coffee bar has a smoking area where a guy can enjoy a cigar and get access to the internet.

At Castaway Cay, the fishing excursion is a lot of fun. You are pretty much guaranteed to catch fish. If your sons-in-law are not fishermen, the beach at Castaway is pretty irrestible and there's snorkeling and other water sports.

There's plenty to do with or without kids. You can enjoy family time if that's what you want or you can get couples-time with some of the highest quality children's activities ever. They will have a great time and their children will have wonderful memories of their vacation as well.

I should point out that I don't know if your sons-in-law smoke cigars or drink. I didn't meant to imply that those types of activities are foremost for adults. They are just part of a wide selection. My husband also heartily recommends the gym and the trivia contests. (We won Name That Tune!) The Pirate Party is an amazing time for all ages.

Disney Cruisers arethe best! ;)

We had three 34- 38 yr old dads in our family on the cruise together. Tons of fun! If they want to be with the kids - family pool, making ice cream sundays in the afternoon, the computer area, go see a movie. Adult stuff - sports bar, basketball, ping pong, shuffle board, adult pool, go see a movie, learn to line dance, get in some of the contests the ship does get a massage at the spa. You will be in ports most days - snorkeling, sight seeing, shopping, etc. Castaway Cay - very fun, kids areas to put the kids in, family area for everyone and adult area to be quiet and alone, take advantage of all the areas. They guys will be BUSY!!! They will need a vacation to recouperate!!
