jcg_austin Posted August 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2004 We are thinking of leaving our 18 month old at home but one of the factors is if we are going to be able to call home or not. I know there are phones in the room that cost some outreagous amount to use. I was wondering if anyone has used them or figured out an alternate way to make calls. Thanks
serene56 Posted August 19, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2004 lots of money per minute- 7.95 -9.95 per minute for the calls. You can wait til yopu get in a port then buy a local phone card. or use email for your back and forth stuff. I am guess that you just want to keep tabs to see if your wee one is good? Not to talk to them- coz you could make thing worse with missing them or the baby you--which will make it bad for the sitter.
Bill S Posted August 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2004 or.... you might consider leasing a satellite phone-they come with pre-paid chip's in them, for example, 60 minutes, pre-loaded, like a phone card. You can find them on the internet. They would probably be cheaper than using ship's phone but they only work outdoors but they work 24/7.
chitowngoose Posted August 24, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2004 What cruise and destinations are you on? My cell phone has worked in a variety of caribbean islands. I have AT&T one rate service. Used it in St. Thomas, San Juan, Coz, not Jamaica or Nassau.
