sailor602 Posted July 19, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2007 Hi! We're on the Emerald in May 2008 and have some shore excursion questions. Has anyone done the catamaran sail from St. Thomas to St. John? What was your experience and would you recommend it? Anyone done any of the other sail excursions like on Grenada? What about the St. Thomas or Grenada scuba? We've done beginner scuba in Hawaii/Maui and loved it - how is it for these? Thanks for your input! choochella Posted July 20, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2007 We always go to St. John's from St. Thomas. If you are on a Princess cruise, then you will dock in Crown Bay, not Charlotte Amalie. It's best to take a cab to Red Hook (about a 20 minute ride), then catch the ferry there instead of in Charlotte Amalie. The ferry leaves every hour from Red Hook. Once arriving in St. John's, you can catch a cab to go to any of the beaches. We usually go to Trunk Bay.
espmass Posted July 20, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2007 We did the catamaran cruise last time we were in Grenada because we had been there several times and had already toured the island. It was one of the best times we had. It was more like a ferry and they had music and limbo and drinks. On the sail out the crew pointed out many things of interest both on the shore and in the water and they gave us a lot of history of Grenada. We had about an hour on a beach and then on the cruise back it was limbo and music all the way. Great time! I highly recommend it.
Vanilla Posted July 20, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2007 In St Thomas, we took the scuba excursion offered at Coki Beach and we were very disappointed. The beach is small and has trash scattered around it. The excursion that is offered is a 3 hour excursion and ends up being about 20 - 30 minutes of water time because they only take you out 1/2 of the group at a time - the rest of the time you are to snorkle or sit on the beach. We will not be doing the Coki Beach scuba on our next trip.

You'll get more knowledgeable scuba info there, especially about St Thomas. It's very active. The "ports of call" boards are helpful, too: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=40 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=133 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
