Sorry It Took Awhile But Here It Goes! I Will Never Step Foot On Another Ncl Ship, Even If It Was Offered Free. The Ship Was Filthy, I Did Not See Anyone Cleaning Glass, Or Wood Surfaces All Week. Ther Was A Pair Of Boy Shorts Behind Our Couch Bed When We Got On The Ship, Garbage In The Closet, and No Towels. The Shorts Were Still There, When We Go Off. We Have Traveled On Rccl, Princess, Disney, and Cunard.this Was Really The Worst As Far As Food, and Cleanliness. We Did Meet Some Very Nice People.franklyn And Gino Are The Best, We Met Them In The Dining Room The First Breakfast, And Had Them Every Morning After. My Daughter And Granddaughter Absolutly Loved Them. I Really Loved Hawaii And Would Love To Go Back. But Believe Me It Will Not Be On Any Ncl Ship.

Sorry you had a bad experience.

Question...did you call housekeeping immediately and ask them to come clean? If you did, and it wasnt done satisfactorilly, did you then go down to reception desk and complain? Or did you just stew over it all week?

From what others have posted, if they did immediately call the proper supervisors/mgt, it eventually got taken care of.

Enjoy your future cruises on RCCL and Princess, they are great cruiselines!

If these types of things are reported they will be handled quickly. Of course a lot depends on attitude. Not every line is right for everyone. For us, we have never had a problem with NCL or NCLA being clean and in good repair. Obviously you did. Oh, I take that back, on the Sky there was a little piece of paper under our desk the entire cruise. It didn't affect our enjoyment in any way, I did watch to see if it would ever disappear, it did not. On the Sun last year, there was a small piece of something in a similar location. Again we watched. The second day it was gone. Some vacume really well, other vacume the way I do. LOL

Karen, here is another poster who is new, which doesn't always mean anything but will come back and say, they did complain, nothing was done.

RCL and Princess are good lines, however our worst service was on RCL twice. Neither time was it terrible.

Karen,

Yes, I Went Down To The Relations Counter And Told Them The Cabin Was Filthy. He Said He Was So Sorry And Would Have It Taken Care Of,it Didn't.i Seen Some Men In White Uniforms Walking The Halway, Asked If They Were With House Keeping, Was Asked If There Was A Problem Told Them About The Cabin! The Captain Told The Others To Get It Taken Care Of, Guess What, I Got Some Towels. I Paid Good Money For This Trip, I Expect A Little Neatness. I Didn't Let It Mess Up My Trip, I Truly Enjoyed Hawaii, and I Really Would Love To Go Back

Wow, when we left the Pride of Hawaii on July 16 it was immaculate! Those passengers the week between our cruise and the OP's must have been real pigs! ;)

OR, the reason the OP didn't see the ordinary maintenance on woodwork, windows, public room carpets, public restrooms, etc. in progress is that it's done during the day -- which in Hawaii is when pretty much all the passengers are off the ship? With no sea days on this itinerary, I'm not surprised OP didn't happen to see it going on -- we didn't. Just a thought, because I can honestly say that our cabin was very clean, and the public areas of the POH were certainly clean during our cruise.

The Pride of Hawaii is a beautiful ship; I'd love to sail her again as the Jade. OP, I'm sorry you didn't like your cruise; several lines offer 10-15 day cruises from the west coast that stop at some Hawaiian ports, so perhaps they will be more to your liking.

By the way, certainly nothing OP relates in this post constitutes "filth" to me sufficient to make me turn down a free cruise! So, NCL, if you have a cabin with some forgotten clothing behind/beneath the sofa, and currently missing its towels (if I can have some when I ask for 'em) -- you have my phone number!

NewMexicoNita- yea, attitude can go a long way- especially when you need something fixed- gramma always said you can "get more things with honey than with vinegar".:p BTW- I vacumm like you too;)

MichellP- good thought for the poster about them cleaning during the day when everyone in port.

Eileen - again, I am sorry you did not get the service you requested and expected. Some stewards are better than others. It will be interesting to see for myself how things are going in December on POH.

Again, hope all you future cruises on the other lines live up to your expectations.

In this person's defense, we were on the same cruise 7-23 & noticed some of the same things.

Since this was our first cruise, we really didn't know what to expect. I had read theses boards & was worried. But my husband said we wouldn't worry about anything until it happened.

Well, it happened.........................we had a Romance Suite 10166. When we checked in we found a tube of preparation H in the cubby hole by the makeup vanity (this was in plain site). I told my husband & decided not to complain. I simply threw it away.

The first night I went to take a bath & the tub drain wouldn't go down to hold water. I didn't get to take a bath & decided to just tell Monique the housekeeper the next day. She said she'd have maintenance come fix it. Well, that night when I went to take my bath, again, tub wouldn't hold water. Told Ryan, our butler, the next day. He said he'd have it fixed..................long story short. It never got fixed all week. In order to take a bath I had to hold the drain plug down with my foot the whole time. And I LOVE my nightly hot bath, this is my escape.

We were on the ship all day on Thursday becuase we didn't do an excursion. There was a large bandaide with dried blood on it in the hallway. I saw it around 9 in the morning. I noticed it still there a couple of hours later. I noticed it still there when we went to lunch at 1:00. I told the guy housekeeper that is in charge of that hall. He said "Thank you, I'll go get it." It was still there when we came back from lunch so I mentioned it to Monique since it was in the hall right by hers. She told me she'd tell (whatever the guys name was) & he'd get it. It was still there 2 hours later & was finally gone when we came back from formal night around 11.

We did try the honey route. We tipped our butler & housekeeper when the cruise started. We tipped them when we left. We did have excellent service from both. I don't feel the bathtub or bandaide was their fault (well Monique could have picked ithe bandaide up but it wasn't in her hall).

The buffett food was nothing better than Hometown Buffet or Royal Coral. Twice I had to wipe off our own table at the buffet in order to eat. At the French Restaurant my husband asked for something vegetarian & was told "Fish is vegetarian." Well not in Mark's book. So he asked if something could be made for him & was told they were too busy for special requests.

My husband was so disappointed that he says he'll never cruise again. But his aunt told him we have to do Royal, she said it is excellent. There was not one ice sculpture or chocolate buffet on our cruise. She said Royal has both that are just fantastic.

My husband says We will definetly go back to Hawaii. But next time we will stay in Oahu & then fly to Maui.

(On a seperate note we stayed 3 days pre-cruise & 3 days after at the Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort in Oahu. We had a Deluxe Ocean View Room that was fantastic. This hotel had excellent service & was immaculately clean. We saw people cleaning here all day long)

Momof5js- thanks for adding your thoughts. Sounds like maybe there might be some people biding their time til their contracts run out. With POH/Jade going to Europe in 5 months, some/many of the crew might not be renewing.

I have heard great things about Ryan. Hope he is there when we get there.

Momof5js, I also appreciate your additional thoughts. I'm not a bath person but if I were, that would have bugged me, too. I'm sorry they didn't get it fixed for you. As for the band-aid -- ewww!

I would join your DH's aunt in encouraging him to cruise again, as well. Perhaps another line will be more to his liking, as the NCLA ships are so much about the itinerary and not as much about the "cruise experience" with ice sculptures, chocolate buffet, dining room parades, etc. I've posted somewhere or other that first time cruisers should view these ships as part of a Hawaii "vacation" and try not to form opinions about "cruising" in general from them. I've cruised NCL, RCCL, Carnival, and NCLA, and I can say that most international cruises are very different than the NCLA offerings (they offer casinos, sea days, and so forth).

Karen, you have a good point about the fact that POH is leaving the Hawaii market, as well -- although I hope for the sake of NCLA's reputation and reviews (which have only begun to turn around) that the company finds a way to motivate even its short-term employees to do their best.
