jburp Posted May 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2004 We are sailing August 1st, on the Saphire. It is our first time in Alaska. Can anyone explain what the difference is in the ship's whale watching tour and Captain Larry's. The ship's tour offers a combined tour that goes to Mendenhall Glacier. Are there tours offer see the glacier that we can do both? Is one Glacier Tour stand out over the others? Do you really see the glacier or do you have to land on it to experience it? Any suggestions would be great. We are in Juneau from 1pm to 10 pm. Thanks.
Budget Queen Posted May 20, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2004 The difference in Cpt. Larry and the ship excursion with Allen Marine is usually just the size of the boat. BUT I always like sailing with Larry- and the great link with a naturalist on a small boat. The ship combo tour to Mendenhall will allow a stop for perhaps an hour. You can also arrange a Mendenhall visitor center drop off with Orca Enterprises- then just leave when you want via $5pp shuttle. You get good views of the glacier face. But you also will see it from your whale watch and transfer to the/from the boat.
