Norcal Cruiser Posted August 22, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2007 When we take independent shore excursions which we're doing for the first time next month how do we handle tipping? We are booked with owners Harv and Marv in Juneau and Michelle of Island Wings in Ketchikan.Do we tip and if so how much?I'd really appreciate some input. We just want to do the right thing....Kathy
fti Posted August 22, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2007 That is a great question. Here are two threads that talk a lot about tipping. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=531010&highlight=tip http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=463713&highlight=tip John
Budget Queen Posted August 22, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 22, 2007 My touring style only. I always tip. If I have a great, and safe tour- it is worth $5-10pp++ I also tip the shuttle drivers etc. Yes, I do carry a lot of small bills, again, my preferences. qiangf2 Posted August 27, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2007 well, I tip most of the time since most of the tour operators have done a great job to make our day pleasant. Only on one occasion in the few years, I decided not to tip since the guide/college kid really didn't know what he is doing, other than chatting with his girl friend all the time. Happyladi Posted August 28, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2007 We tipped the young men helping us on the zip line. We tipped the guide on the fly fishing trip. We often tipped shuttle drivers, too. We tipped our room steward. However, if I was going on a whale watch on a boat owned and run by the man doing the tour; I don't think I would tip him. He sets his price and I pay it. Why should I pay him more? Sure, he has expenses but all the money I pay is his. This is just my opinion.
