Seattle Wineries

We're planning on following up our Alaskan cruise an afternoon of touring some of the wineries outside of Seattle and Snosqualmie (spelling) Falls. Has anyone done the falls and the wineries???any we should definitely stop at?

I live about 15-20 minutes from Snoqualmie Falls, so we've been there many times. It's beautiful, and we often take out-of-town guests. You can hike down to the bottom of the falls, but with small kids, we have never done it. If you can afford it, and make reservations in advance, eating at the Salish Lodge (http://www.salishlodge.com) overlooking the falls is worthwhile.

If you are out that way and are into trains, you might check out the Snoqualmie railroad museum/park too. You can ride one of the trains on the weekends during the summer. Not as impressive as the White Pass train, but still fun.

And just a little plug for Issaquah, WA. Gilman Village is a nice little historic shopping area, frequented by many tour groups. Tuesdays nights in summer we have great concerts on the green. :-)

Presumably you know that few grapes are grown on the west side of the mountains, and that the wineries in the Seattle area mainly are bottling plants for grapes grown east of the Cascades.

If you want to tour the wine-producing areas, it involves a 2 1/2 hour drive over the mountains to the Yakima Valley. If you have a couple of days, it's a wonderful excursion - old west and Indian country, Mt. Adams, the Columbia River, orchards, desert, lots to see.
