Aft Cabin D1-7632/7634 Splendour OTS

Hi,

First please allow me a moment to vent!

We missed out on a Royal family suite but just a day or two. I am trying not to get to disappointed but I am. I knew I should have put down a deposit for it when I spoke with the TA originally. Of course I didn't have any idea you could put a hold on cabins for a few days which is what one of her associates did for the superior stateroom when I called to get the suite and found out that they were sold out. Needless to say I will use the associate. I am still upset about it and was really looking forward to the Royal Family Suite because it gave us privacy but we could still all be together. My aunt who will be the 5th person lives in Italy so I only get to see her every few years. It also would have been cheaper per person then what we are paying now for a superior stateroom.

Anyway, now that the venting is done we just put our deposit down on two Superior Oceanview Staterooms. Does anyone know anything about these rooms? There will be 5 of us. My DH and I in 7632 and my parents and aunt in 7634. My parents/aunt are in their 80's. All have been on cruises and there are no seasick worries with any of us. Does anyone know of any problems with those cabins? For instance is it very noisy? I have read that you have to walk far from aft cabins to the elevators. Just how far are we talking about? Everyone is in pretty good health but I don't want them to be exhausted just to get to the room. Also, are there any advantages to a aft cabin?

I usually don't worry about where my room is. My husband and I tend to go with the flow but this vacation is special. My dad had major heart surgery last year and no one, including his surgeon thought he would be still be here. Not only is he here but healthy as a horse and getting around wonderfully. As the dr's say, he is a medical miracle. But with the ages of the 3 of them, this could be the last time we all get together and the first time we are going on a cruise together so I want to iron out as many problems as I can before they arise.

Thanks for all your help

Hi,

Thanks for all your help

All I have to offer to your questions is that an aft cabin is a long walk to get to! My mom and I had an aft on SOS and while the walk didn't bother ME, it did her, after a while. She uses a cane, and while we knew the cabin was at the back of the ship and that we would have to walk, we didn't realize until we got on the ship just how far that walk WAS!! We had calm seas so no problems with sea sickness. I think most aft cabins tend to "vibrate" sometimes but that is something that didn't bother me. It is very quiet back there since less people have to travel that way to get to their cabins. Good luck!!:)

You should switch to ones right off the elevator. There is no way to predict the seas. In rough weather it is hard for people to walk. You and your husband will have an easier time escorting them down the shorter distance if needed.

With all three of them in their eighties they all will have problems with the length of the hall. Even if they walk a couple of miles a day on a cruise ship you can do that just going to meals and a few events. With the motion of the ocean they will be using different muscle for just normal walking and will likely tire faster. You also want to minimize the chances of a fall.

Best,

Michelle
