cruiselover49 Posted September 16, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2007 Will be staying in San Diego 1/24/08. Plan on staying at the Hampton by the cruise port. Any help on this hotel would be appreciated.
B113 Posted September 16, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2007 Stayed at the Hampton in November of 2005 before our Hawaii cruise. Friendly staff and great location and it's approximately two blocks from the cruise terminal and 2 miles form the airport. It's within walking distance of Little Italy and Seaport Village. Be sure and request a room in the front of the hotel. There are train tracks that are in the back and other people have said it was disturbing. You might check out trip advisor. We will be staying there this November before our cruise on the Oosterdam. Daryl
JudithLynne Posted September 16, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2007 We are cruising in December. Attempted to get a room in front of the hotel (Hampton) and was told very clearly that room location would not be guaranteed. We booked at the Holiday Inn by the bay which was more pricey but we could not tolerate the RR noise.
O2cruise Posted September 17, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2007 JudithLynne, many travelers have reported on the train noise at the Holiday Inn. I've read that it's not as bad if you get a bay view room, as high as possible.
JudithLynne Posted September 17, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2007 We did get a bay view room up high. We booked in advance on the web and prepaid to get a discount so feel that we got a good deal. Hope it works out for us.
missjanet Posted September 18, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 18, 2007 We stayed at this Hampton Inn in June & found it a lovely place to stay. I don't recall the train being a problem, but it definitely is close & you will hear it wherever you are. I always travel with earplugs anyway & keep them beside the bed in case of noisy neighbors or trains or whatever. They have a nice complimentary breakfast served in the lobby every day. This is a nice feature since it means you don't have to go out looking for somewhere to eat the morning of your cruise. There are various breads & bagels, muffins, coffee & teas, plenty of cold cereals & fruit. The only hotel I've seen with a better complimentary breakfast is the Residence Inn (there's one near the Hampton Inn, but it's pricier). And they have a nice complimentary shuttle which we've used before. Previous poster mentioned how great the location is for dining - plenty of great restaurants in the nearby Little Italy & Seaport Village area. This hotel is a good choice all around I think & I wouldn't hesitate to use it again. Janet
cruiselover49 Posted September 18, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted September 18, 2007 Thanks to all of you for your response to my question regarding the hotel. You have help me make my decision. We will be staying there. I did request a room at the front and as always take a gamble. Isn't that what life is anyway? One big gamble? Glad to be part of it.
