Hawaii cruise question-can you stay

We are doing cruise on NCL Sun. Itinery is maui Hilo Lahaina.

I wondered if We could get hotel in Maui and reboard ship when is returns. We would miss Hilo but we have been there twice and would love to have three days on Maui.

Does anyone one know if this would be possible?

We are leavving for trip Fri Sept 21, 2007

Thanks,

Karin

I believe Lahaina is a tender port. If the seas are too rough, the ship won't be able to tender and you'll miss picking your ride back up.

The best thing though is to check with NCL and see if this is allowed.

You will need written approval from NCL head office. We stayed off a HAL ship in Buenos Aires and needed a head office letter to give on board staff. It was a little different since the ship was overnighting. There can be many reasons you might be refused. No harm in trying if thats what you would like to do.

I had not even considered that possibility!! Not worth the worry or risk.

Twice we have cruised Hawaii and both times the ship was overnight in Maui. That is a better plan I think. Then we rented a car for two days and was able to have more time on Maui. I don't know why they do it this way.

Any ideas the reasoning behind the schedule?

I'm also not sure about whether that would violate the Passenger Services Act. The Sun is an internationally flagged ship and subject to all the regulations that the NCLA Pride ships avoid because they are US flagged. If you were on a Pride ship, then the tendering issue at Lahaina would be your only real concern.

I suspect that the scheduling is due to other ships in the ports on those days.
