Fire Mtns in Canary Islands?

We will be in Accerife, Lanzarote, on Nov 2ndn and are trying to decide which way to go to see and do more, versus cost. Has anyone taken a ship excursion or a taxi to this? What are your thoughts - good points and bad- about this trip? (Timanfaya National Park)

Have been to Lanzarote many times [it is a very British tourist destination] - and highly recommend a visit to Timanfaya. The lunar landscape is amazing, and in its own way, beautiful. I believe that they tested the lunar landing cars for the moon landings there.....

At the top of the mountain the guides do 'shows' such as pouring water down a hole and it shoots straight back up as steam. There is a restaurant there where they cook over a hole - heat straight from the centre of the earth. And there are also coaches which leave regularly for a drive round the park accompanied by suitable futuristic music!

 

If the ship offers a tour there I would take it. You will also see some of the very pretty countryside on the way - all houses can only be painted white, the black earth with bright red flowers, and the shutters in green or blue only.

Do you get to the exhibits and 'demonstrations' before you drive thru the park on their transportation? If we were to take a taxi, is that where we would leave it? Someone said you would have to have them wait, as no taxi stand in the park. How long is the drive around on the bus?
