Fishing at Ketchikan

Not long ago I remember reading from someone's experience at fishing in Ketchikan. This person mentioned that you can purchase a one day fishing license and rent a fishing pole and can fish from the pier for salmon. Did I get that information right? If so, I would like to know more about this. It sounds too good to be true. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.
