Is it fairly easy to return a rental car to MIA?

We are taking the thrifty shuttle after the cruise to the airport and renting a car for the day. We fly out the following morning at 7 am. Would we be better off returning the car the evening before & taking the hotel shuttle to the airport that morning, or is it fairly easy to return the car at the airport and take the shuttle to the terminal? Since we have an early flight, will there be people at the car return at 5 am? Also, does anyone know if we will have to wait until the shuttle is full before they will take us to the terminal? Sorry for all the questions, but I am concerned about getting the car back and making our flight. Thanks.

It is very easy to drop the car back at the airport. It's a 15 minute drive from the airport to the pier. Just make sure they have a shuttle to the pier - not all car rentals do.
