shahan10 Posted November 20, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2007 We're planning on our first cruise in Aug 08 to Alaska. We're hoping to get a balcony. Do we want a higher deck or lower? On the side or at the back? Any opinions? thanks!
Toyz711 Posted November 20, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 20, 2007 if you get motion sickness, lower and mid-ship is best. it you choose the pearl, going to glacier bay, and do a side balcony...get it on the port side. all of glacier bays views are closer on the port side, plus what ever the park rangers talk about, will be on the port side. don't know about tracy arms/sawyer glaciers. which ever glacier you see, go up to the top deck and get the FULL view...amazing. the 3 ships are all different...but the balcony you can afford is what i suggest. the excursions in alaska are expensive, make sure you buget for then. latino8100 Posted November 20, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 20, 2007 We did Alaska in Sept had a balcony on the side deck 10. It's my opinion that side balcony is better for this cruise because of the inside passage route is breathtaking. As for level, I believe the balcony's start at deck 8 we were on deck 10 but I don't think 2 or 3 decks up or down would make much of a difference. Also if u can take binocular's to use on the balcony. I also want to go back as 1 week wasn't enough time to see and do everything. If one of your ports is Skagway I highly recommend u do the Ultimate Yukon & White Pass Railway it's about 8 hr's approx $175 and the scenery is unbelievable. The train seats are comfortable asis the bus. The lunch was also very good. Half the tour is train and the other half is bus with lots of short stops for pic's. taxmantoo Posted November 20, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 20, 2007 Keep in mind that from an aft balcony, you can see BOTH sides...
Angelcreek Posted November 20, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 20, 2007 We have had both a side balcony and an aft balcony to Alaska. The aft was by far our favorite! Bigger views, the sound of the wake to lull you to sleep, and almost no wind! :D
