D&D/RI, the Captain's party was before the first formal night so everyone was dressed up. They go around with appetizers which are really good and drinks. If you do not like the drink on the tray, they will get you what you want. It was fun. They had a band and our kids where out there dancing. We had the 8pm seating for dinner so I believe that the Captain's party was at 7.

For those who have sailed Carnival before, your sign and sail card will be gold and you will be invited to a party before the 2nd formal night. My brother was invited but did not go because he didn't want to go by himself so I can't help you with that one.

Yes they have hair driers in the room. They seem good although I brought my own. My sister and her girls used the one in the room and I did not hear them complain about them.

There is only ONE plug in the room. It is at the desk. There is no plug in the bathroom so I brought an extension cord for a clock (there are none)and a fan (I need the noise at night). The hair drier is connected to a plug in a drawer so you cannot remove it. The desk has a mirror.

Also, the showers are awesome. Really good pressure, never had a problem with the water temp. For those of you with little one's, the nozzle comes off and it is also adjustable to their size. There is a shampoo dispenser and a body wash dispenser in the shower. They give you a bar of soap and bic razors (which I heard are bad, I did not use them) and one small tube of cinnomon toothpaste (yuk).

I'm still trying to thinks of things to tell everyone, especially those first time cruisers as I wish I new a lot more when I went. If I come up with anything, I will let you know.

Kathy

PS, we always went to dinner about 10 minutes late because there is a big crowd there right at 8. Especially on the first night. Also, go to breakfast in the dining room sometimes. It is nice to get waited on for breakfast. The sea days are good for that.

Thank you for all the great info Kathy. As first timers I was so happy to hear about this site through friends that have sailed before. I am one to research alot and have done plenty of it here and Frommers.com.

Thanks again,

D&D

As a first time cruiser, I do not understand the categories. I was in an inside room on the Riviera Deck. We all had refrigerators, or stocked refrigerators that you can fit water or a bottle of wine into. I'm sure other rooms have the same but maybe someone else can help you out on that one.

Todd was funny. I like watching his morning show on the lido deck. Him and Norde (I forget how you spell it, he said it rhymes with snorty) were really funny. She is as cute as a button. Sometimes after he told a joke though, he would say "I am so fired" and I think he said that about 10 times so it wasn't funny after the 2nd time. Other than that he was entertaining.

I just read your post and we are traveling on the ship for New Years when lots of football games are going on--I am freaking out that they do not have ESPN--the guys in my group are going to DIE---I promised them they could watch football--as that has been the case on Royal Caribbean-I am in trouble! Did you notice if you got the regular Tv stations? I do not know what to do about this--any ideas?

you might not have noticed this--because you have younger children--but I was wondering about the strict enforcement of the drinking age--I have college age kids that are almost 21---and they are used to drinking at school--I know it is against the law--but it is a fact--is there anywhere that the under 21 crowd cannot go--or did you notice any drinking issues for the under 21 crowd--I know the policy of Carnival--but I was wondering if they will be able to be able to drink--if we get it for them?

There is a reason for the drinking age.. if you are willing to watch your college age underage (on Carnival) kids drink the liquour you purchase for them.. then go for it.. some kids are more responsible than others.;)

we always went to dinner about 10 minutes late

There is a plug in the bathroom, it is up high above the mirror and is for shavers so it may not have an earth connection. I used to charge my PDA and iPod in there as I could leave it on the top shelf out of the way. That power point is US plugs only but the one at the desk is US and European and both can be used at once if you bring an adaptor.

We also found it better not to rush to meals as they were late just about every night. We were late dining in Posh so I think it was just that they would get behind at early dining and not have enough time to catch up for the second sitting.

Wow Davidand Paula, never noticed that plug in the bathroom. I really looked too. Oh well, I had my extension cord so all was well.

The only place our kids could not go was the casino. I never noticed any one checking ID's. I'm sure if they are discreet, there will not be a problem. Then again, the oldest in our group was 13.

The ESPN thing was a bummer for my husband also. The sports bar had games on but not always the one they wanted. One time one of the football games was in Spanish. They did show the Sunday night football game on the big screen out on the lido deck which was great because the Pats were playing and I am a Pats fan. (Sorry everyone). As for what to do about it, don't tell them and act shocked when they can not watch the games they want. They will be able to see some. I have yet to understand the Denver station thing. I don't think anyone from Dever sails out of Miami.

I agree, going to Dinner 10 minutes or so later is better.
