BambiRumsey Posted December 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2007 Was just reading on-line about Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico getting slammed by TS Olga. Has anyone heard anything or seen information on ships being re-routed to other ports? We leave in just a few days. I wish the folks on Fortuna NOW were using their internet minutes to post on Cruise Critic!!!!!
njs Posted December 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2007 I was wondering the same thing. Went on a few different sites but nothing about a change in port has been said yet ~ perhaps that would depend on whether or not the pier is damaged. Hope they dont change since the only 2 excursions we have pre-booked are for both those ports (segway in p.r. and zipline in d.r.)
BambiRumsey Posted December 13, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted December 13, 2007 I don't know if the itineraries this week even called on those ports so hard to say. Definitely nothing on any site I've googled about changes for next week...

millineumwoman Posted December 13, 2007 #6 Share Posted December 13, 2007 it looks like its mostly on the west so it shouldn't effect us too much here is what was said on storm watch 000 WTNT42 KNHC 130233 TCDAT2 TROPICAL DEPRESSION OLGA DISCUSSION NUMBER 9 NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL AL172007 1000 PM EST WED DEC 12 2007 ONCE AGAIN...I HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO TERMINATE ANOTHER TROPICAL CYCLONE THIS SEASON. SATELLITE IMAGES AND RADAR FROM PILON CUBA SHOW THAT THE CENTER OF THE DEPRESSION IS BECOMING LESS DEFINED. THE LOW-LEVEL CIRCULATION IS STILL ESTABLISHED...BUT THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY SIGNIFICANT PERSISTENT CONVECTION FOR ABOUT 12 HOURS OR SO. THE CYCLONE IS INITIALIZED AS A 25-KNOT TROPICAL DEPRESSION BUT FORECAST TO BECOME A REMNANT LOW VERY SOON...PERHAPS AS WE SPEAK. THERE IS ALWAYS A CHANCE THAT SOME CONVECTION REDEVELOPS INTERMITTENTLY DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO...AS THE REMNANT LOW MOVES WESTWARD ABOUT 10 TO 15 KNOTS ACROSS THE WARM WATERS OF THE NORTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA. HOWEVER...THE SHEAR IS EXPECTED TO BE TOO STRONG TO ALLOW REINTENSIFICATION...FAMOUS LAST WORDS. THE LOW WILL LIKELY BECOME ABSORBED BY AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT IN 3 DAYS OR SO OVER THE EXTREME NORTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA. THIS WILL BE THE LAST ADVISORY ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER ON OLGA UNLESS REGENERATION OCCURS. Cruise4Andy Posted December 17, 2007 #8 Share Posted December 17, 2007 We just came back from the Fortuna today and DID visit Puerto Rico, after sailing through parts of Olga... even tough it rained in San Juan, we docked as scheduled... no damages in that part of Puerto Rico. So everybody sailing in the future should be just fine!
